Hey everybody. I'm currently using Skim on Mac OS to mark up PDFs. This is a fine solution, but I'd also like to create outlines on the side to use with comprehensive exams later on. My solution to this so far has been to create an anchored note next to the title of the paper and then use that to make a crude outline. Basically, my question is whether there's a better way to do this or not using anything than can run on OSX. Suggestions?

I didn't contact any of my potential professors. Instead, I relied on my adviser knowing many of the POIs I listed on my different personal statements. It worked out fine.

I was accepted to GWU with no funding; the faculty are great, so it was a little disappointing, but an adviser explained that those PhD programs were somewhat specialized for policy jobs. For the record, I have a friend who was accepted and received some funding, but I imagine they were at the top of the admission pool.

I'm not an authority on the subject, but I asked a very similar question to a lot of professors and academics prior to my MA applications. The general consensus was that as long as my objective was a PhD in Political Science, I should matriculate in an MA program that had two things: a good concentration of professors and resources for the area I study, and good financial aid packages. They said that the "pedigree" or where the MA came from was far less important than it was for the PhD. The MA should instead be used to develop your regional concentration, since your PhD courses will look at the core parts of the field. The overwhelming consensus was to go to a moderately reputable program with the most generous financial offer.

Were you an IUC student by chance?

For the non-coffee addicts, high-quality tea (from vendors like Adagio) and an electric water boiler like from Zojirushi are a must. I drank 4-5 mugs of tea a day while doing my MA in Seattle. The caffeine is a long, moderate high, rather than a sudden peak of energy followed by a crash. The level of alertness provided by the tea is much better for long periods of reading.

Political Science here. Just signed my rental agreement for One Miramar. I don't know anybody out in San Diego, so it was the best option.

E-mailed NYU. They say they're still sending out admissions, and will be finished in a few weeks. =/

I saw there was a wave of NYU rejections. Anyone still waiting for one of those?

It seems that most of the application process done, with only a few schools straggling behind to get out rejections, wait list notifications and maybe even some tragically belated admissions offers. Has anybody out there already made up their minds about where to go? If not, what are you still considering and why? Maybe we can even start some mini-clubs, rounding up all the GC regulars planning to go to the same schools.

Realist, Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule not only for this expatiation, but elsewhere on the forums too. I hate to be the kid that tugs on your sleeve after witnessing you give a treat to somebody else, but I wonder if you could offer your opinions on a few more programs. Namely where do UCSD and UCLA fit into all this? MIT?

Can you use an unfunded offer to advance negotiations with another school?

Checking in real quick to claim a GWU acceptance - the one with no funding. Just got the e-mail five minutes ago. I don't want to take out any more loans so GW isn't an option, but it's nice to someone approve of my application.

Still waiting on Berkeley here. What could they possibly be waiting for?

It looks like NYU did all its admissions last year in one go.
