Don't be concerned. They didn't send anything out. I went on the ufl.edu site and searched application status. That's how I found out about the account. It's called gatorlink. -

RELIEF!!! Sorry for the frantic post...whew. Not a good thing to see before I have my coffee! Just called the English Department and they told me that the department had my scores it just wasn't updated to the admissions office website. She told me to "hang in there" lol. That made me laugh. I just thought this poor woman probably talks to multiple people a day that are freaking out because they think something is missing!! Anyways, hope everyone has a good day. -
I just found out this morning that my GRE scores were not attached to my application. I'm waiting until 8 am to call the department to find out if it is too late because they were sent just not put onto my application. Do you think it is too late??

Spring Conferences
lolopixie replied to lolopixie's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I almost didn't apply for the PCA this year because I'm working on my thesis too. Then I realized that the completed version of my thesis is due 2 weeks before the conference, so I opted to take this as my "congratulations, you did it" trip. I'm not presenting in my area of focus, but it is a paper that is completed already that I'm pretty happy with (no revisions to be made, yay). If I didn't already have the paper done and wasn't going to be done with thesis, I probably wouldn't have gone either. Good news, I hit 30 pages on my thesis tonight! Not much more to meet the minimum page requirement, which I know I will be soaring past since I have 3.5 more chapters to write. Hope yours is moving along. -
How common is it for students to ask someone to repeat what they said?
lolopixie replied to InquilineKea's topic in The Lobby
I'm pretty good at short-handing my notes when with my advisor, but she is great about sending me a follow up email with everything we went over...probably best advisor I could have ever gotten because she is just so on top of things! Otherwise, I would probably be asking to repeat or emailing later to verify information. -
Real job - I work in the corporate office of Bank of America - cannot wait until I can put in my notice!!!

Telling advisor/someone else that you're "too busy"
lolopixie replied to InquilineKea's topic in The Lobby
If I have told my adv that I was busy, I was. Juggling ft work and ft MA program has been exhausting, and I am exhausted now - but I stick to my deadlines. Even if I am turning something in right on time - they get there. I completely understand that you just want to relax sometimes - I do it, but then the next day I have to make up for my slack. I've never told an adv that I was busy for mulitple weeks - other when I had surgery. Even then I had the laptop back in the bed after a few days. -
I'm taking this as that post that you saw was spam and not to worry! Especially since the ASF clearly states in bold letters that they cannot communicate decisions via phone or email.
-
Thank you, kindly! All that for what I knew would be there "Pending Decision"

I didn't apply this year because I had surgery and completely forgot about it until the day after it was due! Dang pain killers. However, I applied last year and got it. It was very nice to get a $300 check when I showed up to pick up my registration packet!! Good luck if you applied....and if you get it, your name will go up on the website! -

I remember last year my area chair sent out our area schedule before the big one came out. I'm not presenting in that area this year, but know someone who is and he hasn't received anything from her yet. My area chair hasn't sent out an area schedule either - guess they are waiting for everything to be done before they send it out this year. I'm ready to know so I can go ahead and make my reservations!! -
UPitt Acceptances
lolopixie replied to tortola23's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Congrats, Crae. I didn't apply there, but just other info I would like to know of someone who has been accepted to 2 schools now, do you have any publications? If so, how many? -
I'm web challenged apparently. I can't figure out where to login. This is why I fear that in my teaching career my students will be coming in with kindles and I will have an anxiety attack! lol

I can't find it - where is it? I've been checking ASF too.

Spring Conferences
lolopixie replied to lolopixie's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
That is awesome that you are organizing a conference! I was petrified of conferences before I presented at one - they have since become my form of vacation (especially since I have been able to get grants for every one I have attended). They are a great way to travel, meet people, network, and have nerdy lit fun without being judged lol. -

I'm presenting on how Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" is a satire of mourning practices in 18th/19th century America. What are you working on? If we are there at the same time, we should meet up. I'll let you know when exactly I'll be there once the schedule comes out. -
I applied to UMD and have not heard anything via any method as of yet. I was also under the impression that all information would come in the mail from them.

I saw in the Weekend Worriers post that there are a few people going to the CEA conference in March, and I was wondering if anyone else had plans for conferences this spring. I'll be at the PCA/ACA in San Antonio in April. I went to the conference in St. Louis last year, which was actually the first conference that I presented at, and had a great time. Just wondering what everyone else was up to.

I like your potential upside of this...but Duke's tuition is more like $35k a year!!!! SO we are looking at a potential of $300K - definitely workth the current $2kish kick out for travel.
