  1. I would love to know that as well! I see that an acceptance has been posted on the result's page; would that lucky person be kind enough to share some details with the rest of us?
  2. It could be any of the following: 1. The Ad Com makes admission decisions in rounds. 2. If the univ informs you of their decisions via postal mail you might not have received your letter yet. 3. You're Waitlisted. Just hang in there and hope for the best; and if you don't hear anything for a few more weeks, just call or email them and ask. Goodluck!
  3. I am willing to risk a steady job, put off marriage plans and lead a near poverty-stricken life for the next 5 years.
  4. Well, provided the email came from a valid university address I would say congrats on getting accepted. There should be no reason for you to get paranoid. Was the email from the department or the Graduate School? Perhaps receiving the ID and password are contingent in you actually accepting the offer. Or perhaps it takes some time for the school to officially process acceptances. If you are really concerned I would suggest calling or emailing the department to confirm your acceptance. There is absoluely no need for you to freak out over this, enjoy the moment!
  5. I am in the same boat so I can truly empathize. I am REALLY REALLY starting to get annoyed by people bitching about how anxiety provoking their situation is when there are ALREADY sitting on one or more funded acceptances from great programs. Just one funded accepatnce (from anywhere) would be enough make me ecstatic and release me from this perpetual limbo I seem to be in these days. If it doesn't work out for me this time around I'll be leaving academic permanently, I just can't make my profile stronger than it already is.
  6. slothy and ewurgler, you both are still fortunate and blessed enough to have already been selected by top-notch programs. Poor ol' me hasn't heard from a single school so far, and at this point I'm not really holding out for an acceptance from Northwestern, a waitlist "maybe". I think the person who posted the result just selected the wrong campus from the drop down list.
  7. That would certainly make me feel better than an outright rejection for sure! Hopefully we'll find out by the day's end, though I am uncertain as to whether they would communicate wait-list status via the website.
  8. Or more likely rejections (sigh). Still, unless I get something official there's still a chance no matter how teensy weensy. Congrats on your acceptance though!
  9. There is no "View Decision" link on my application status page that I can see. Where do you check your status from?
  10. I admire your fortitude and I REALLY REALLY hope you're right! I guess it's better to err on the safe side of the grad coordinator's disposition at this point in time.
  11. waitingforoffer, was your last post regarding USC or UCSD? I am really in a tizzy about whether to contact the grad coordinator at UCSD to inquire about my application status... *resumes nail biting*
  12. I hate you so much!!! Congratulations!!!
  13. I'd say it's pretty clear. Congrats! You're in!
  14. No doubt, portal is undoubtedly in a league of it's own -- probably the most innovative game of the last decade. And I agree that Coulton's "Still Alive" is probably the best end credits theme ever for a myriad of reasons, but my personal favourite is "M4 Part 2" by the Faunts from Mass Effect. Mirror's Edge actually tried to overcome the motion sickness issue with FP games by offering a wider field of vision coupled with HUD mechanics that tried to simulate actual dynamic vision rather than a static camera attached to a head that most FPS's offer. Did you by any chance play with the reticle disabled?
  15. "Still Alive" by Lisa Miskovsky from "Mirror's Edge". Great song; Amazing game! -- provided a brief but immensely enjoyable relief from the real life waiting game.
  16. Why hello there Debbie Downer!
  17. That indeed is sadistic! You would think that a word like "congratulations" would be sparingly contextualized by universities but noooooooo, they have to just insert it into the start of nearly every damn correspondence (congrats on starting your app., congrats on completing your app., congrats your (supp material) has arrived, congrats you were put on the waiting list, congrats you were deemed unworthy... etc. etc) I guess one way a rejection could be construed as positive would be if they transfer your app. to another department/program they consider you to be a stronger candidate for. Or, if they are even explicit about what exactly the application was lacking would go some way towards alleviating the post-rejection angst.
  18. A "positive rejection" is an oxymoron. Couching a rejection in warm phrasing doesn't make the blow it deals you any less hurtful.
  19. Thanks ewurgler! And Congrats on getting into UNC!
  20. Umm...I am an international student who has applied to your undergrad institution, since you would obviously be "in the know" about departmental policies, should be preparing myself for a forseeable rejection?
  21. Points well made!
  22. Ditto! It is painful for me to even contemplate rejection at this point.
  23. I think I am pretty sure which school you are alluding to since that rejection posting freaked me out as well. I haven't received anything from them either.
  24. Thanks! For now I think I'll make like the proverbial ostrich -- NO news is GOOD news!
  25. What I am confused about are the 3 singular instances of people having heard back from 3 of the universities I have applied to (an acceptance, a rejection and one waitlist) in the results section of this website without there being any mention by other applicants about their statuses having been updated. I'm perplexed!
