I too haven't got any interview, and only had a couple of visits to my portfolio website, lasting no longer than a couple of minutes; they had a look at only 3 or 5 projects, out of more than 10.

International students - Is the application revised differently?
ringo-ring replied to litalchart's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
As far as I know, score in Verbal doesn't matter at all unless you apply in Humanities. -
What's the matter what you chances are? The graduate admission is a lottery. Even a stellar application won't guarantee you an admission, and the bad one won't necessarily be detrimental (and I would say you have something in between despite your GPA). You can never be sure before you get the results, so what's the matter guessing - Just keep truckin' along!

How does scoring actually work? (New GRE)
ringo-ring replied to conticuere24's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Man what is the matter 170 or 168? I got 166 preliminary result after testing, wasn't able to access my official score until 17 days after test date (despite they've promised results to appear on Dec, 8 for test-takers on Nov, 28) and when it finally appeared, it was 160 (!) for Verbal, they stole six points from me Now I cannot even access the diagnostic service - it says data incorrect, but I'm sure I type in everything as it is: registration number, test date, possibly I forgot my birthday? Well I'm not applying to English program so 160 is OK, but still this is kinda annoying, Damn ETS! -
Journals in Communications
ringo-ring replied to edost's topic in Communication and Public Relation Forum
There should be a number called impact factor somewhere on the journal webiste. The higher the better -
Did you try contacting the professors? I just applied this Wednesday I have a website very similar to yours I guess everyone will have something like this in their application Regarding chances, they don't require GRE - so GPA may be not important as well

GRE Predicted Range vs Actual Score - huge difference!
ringo-ring replied to stevenp's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Well I'm in the same boat. My official GRE Verbal score turned out to be six (!) points lower than estimated, on a new scale -

hm... letter writers know you very well, so they could have a completely different impression after reading your SOP than somebody from the outside. kinda of ambiguous points in the essay that everyone interprets accordingly to his own experience anyway, I too, feel like those schools that rejected me, they just made a horrible mistake!! yes, I can rationalize that my GRE is not bad but not in 99 percentile, no one of the letter writers had known me for at least a year, I have no peer-reviewed publications, the competition for internationals is tougher... but still, I tend to feel it was like, they just don't like me, that's it. and if they don't like me, they will only dislike me even harder if I have better accomplishments
-
I don't want to be mean but plausible explanation could be that there is something wrong with the way you write your SOP (or undergrad admission essay). If everything else is OK, why else? you could assume that's because competition is high, but all of your peers got in so this is apparently not the case... GRE scores are not at all important if everything else is great as you say.

How to get a visa to volunteer at a lab
ringo-ring replied to Sara_Rachel's topic in IHOG: International House of Grads
I think that should be OK... these links may be helpful http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/letter.asp I would like to advice you to think if you really need to spend your money on that volunteering - at least from my experience with different types of unpaid or low-paid "internships", there is no guarantee you will do any great research here and get well along with the prof.. since you're a volunteer, you have no obligations but the lab has no obligations to you, too. So the great outcome of your visit is not guaranteed. Maybe it is better to arrange research at some Indian institution and save money. If the prof thinks your app is great he could advice some way to make it even more competitive without spending money to travel. Or (s)he could offer you a paid position in the lab for 1 or 2 years. -

I read that schools, apart from just GRE score by itself, appreciate progress - so if your score was very low from the beginning but then it gradually became better and better with each try - it will look very good on your application. In such case, they will probably look only at the latest, highest scores.
