  1. I'll be leaving during next summer to fulfill my internship requirement. Hopefully I'll be able to find a subleaser...
  2. I agree, check with your school and your specific program. In my undergrad, grad students in the College of Music taught the basic music theory and sight singing classes (theory and composition grads), many of the music history sections (musicology grads), some of the non-major music classes (like Modern Popular Music) (ethnomusicology or musicology grads), private lessons (performance grads), etc. Luckily, with Arts Administration, I'll be working in an office--though two of our assistantships are with the recital halls and as orchestra manager.
  3. I can't wait to have built-in bookshelves in my house!
  4. The nice thing about staying at the same school (different program though): No moving. The bad thing about staying at the same school: I have to find roommates for my house where the rent is increasing :-\
  5. I'm waiting on funding from the school I've been admitted to (and am still waiting on any word from one more school). I have this constant monologue going through my head: wake up funding CNN funding breakfast fundingfundingfundingfunding IU acceptance IU funding FSUfundingfundingfunding thegradcafe.com stupid liberal studies class I left til the end stupid class I'm taking for no reason except that I need to be full-time fundingfundingfundingfundingfunding fundingfunding IUacceptance roommates for next year FAFSA fundingfundingfundingfundingfundingfundingfundingfunding SAI funding thegradcafe.com SAI fundingfundingfunding I should practice fundingfundingfundingfunding I'm tired phdcomics.com oohNCIS fundingfundingfunding ooh Frasier fundingfundingfunding sleep
  6. Has anyone heard back? If so, when was your deadline? I feel like I've been waiting forever, even though the deadline was a month ago.
  7. I've been admitted for an MA in Arts Administration. I'm currently in undergrad at FSU, so I may be able to answer your questions.
  8. Right now I don't have to make a choice, but to go to the school I'm waiting on they would have to give me a full assistantship for the 2 years (out-of-state tuition for the lose).
  9. My boyfriend started grad school this past fall, and applied in 2 (out of 3) cities that do not have programs in my field. Due to a car accident, he was only able to take an audition at his safety school, which (luckily) is only 4 hours away from my undergrad (and what will most likely be my grad program too). Neither of us really consulted the other as far as where we were applying because, at that point, neither of us wanted to sacrifice our career for the other. Long-distance is working out okay. Not ideal though, obviously. He's going to finish his degree a semester to a year before I do and we haven't really discussed what happens after that yet. But that's 2 years away, we'll get there.
  10. If your department has accepted you it doesn't seem likely that you'd be rejected from the Graduate Division. I got my acceptance from the department first and the letter from Graduate Studies didn't come for at least 2 weeks.
  11. Most I submitted about 3 weeks before the deadline, though one wasn't due til Feb. 15th, so that was submitted a good 3 months, if not more, ahead of time. I've heard from everyone except that school. Wait, wait, wait...
  12. I have yet to tell my parents that I was rejected by Carnegie Mellon because I don't want to deal with the "I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" bullshit that I know will come (and I was rejected almost 2 months ago) because I'm not upset about it (strangely). I figure I'll tell them soon, maybe over Spring Break.
  13. I had an academic crush on my British History professor for 3 years and I actually had a dream about going on a date with him last semester. He's tall, thin, slightly awkward in a very cute way, and REALLY knowledgeable. Anyway, my friend who has taken all the same classes with this prof and I found out that he's gay and that he has kids with his partner (oh the google search is wonderful... Turns out that his partner has some notoriety in his field as well). Needless to say, my crush was crushed, but I'm glad we found out about it in the last class we could take with him (we're both graduating this semester and he's teaching abroad this semester).
  14. To clarify what risingstar said, All Saints Cafe is in the Railroad Square area of town south of FSU's campus, whereas Frenchtown is north of campus. I've been at FSU for 4 years and will more than likely be coming back for 2 more in the Arts Administration program and agree with what everyone else says. Live on the east side of town. Streets like N. Duval and N. Bronough have townhouses that are relatively quiet (this is the area I live in now, and have for 3 years). The area is a mix of (mostly quiet, though it varies from year to year) undergrads, grads, and families/working professionals. I know a few of my professors live within about 4 blocks of me and my next-door neighbor used to work for the state. Stay out of the huge apartment complexes--they are generally overrun by party-happy undergrads. There are small apartments close to campus (I'm thinking of the ones on Jefferson St. by the College of Law) and I think that mostly grad and law students live there, but they're close to fraternity houses so they can be loud on the weekends (one of my TAs from freshman and sophomore years lived there and complained about the weekend noise all the time), but I think they're cheap. Hopefully this helps you!
