  4. I'm going to the gym as a preemptive action - pre-rejection. It helps to distract me from the endless waiting, and to balance future pizza eating upon rejection [yup. still waiting on all the programs I applied to]
  5. well, it really depends on your school and program. One program I applied to, for example, had sent replies (both acceptance and rejection) until mid May last year. And then again, some programs already finished their first round. From what I read here in the forum, American schools usually reply by April 15th. In any case, hang in there! They didn't forget about you - although it might seem that way...

  7. well, I wasn't, UNTIL NOW! I'm trying to write the last 3 pages that are missing in my masters thesis - the preface. And instead of doing that, I keep occupying myself with thoughts of being accepted/rejected. Thanks, now I have one more thing to keep me from doing what I should... After reading that, no way I can go a day without looking for apartments on the other side of the globe...

  9. Good luck aber_leider! Keep us posted. I'm going crazy I see other international applicants getting answers from other PhD programs in the schools I applied to. I know each program is different, but still, it's nerve racking... I think I might contact them next week. Will probably consult the forum about it.

  11. If I get accepted to any of the programs I applied to (still haven't heard anything...), my partner and I will have to move to another country and change our lives completely. He really wants to move, and it was a mutual decision on where I should apply to. But I feel bad that our whole future is now depending on whether I get in or not. I'm sure he's as tense as I am, waiting to hear from the schools, but maybe less anxious. He's very understanding and supportive, but I think that there's also something very personal and private about this process of applying. You put yourself out there to see if you're good enough, and that's a hard feeling to share. Anyway, I'm happy I have someone to support me whatever the result may be. After all, that's more important than anything!
  12. sometimes making plan B requires a lot of effort and commitment, which is very hard before you even know whether you're accepted or not. For example, I can't go to any job interviews for anything interesting because I can't answer basic questions like "when can you start" or "will you be willing to commit for at least a year?". Hey, I don't even know if I'm gonna leave the country [for school] in a couple of months or not!
  13. Why don't you email the same person who called you, making sure that you are still considered for admission as if they had received everything on time? I don't think it would make things worse, and it might put your mind at ease

  16. As an international student myself (well, at least a prospective one...), I know you can't get a student loan at this stage. But you'll probably be able to once you're in the program, with a student visa. Especially after a couple of years, when you become some sort of permanent resident. All this info is available on-line. If I were you, I would check exactly how - and when - I'd be able to apply for a loan, and then email this POI with a plan. Maybe what they need is just some kind of a formal statement on your side that you guarantee you'll get the needed funds. And there are all kind of options after four years, like financial aid, scholarships and rewards. Don't give up! Make a financial plan for the 5th year and convince them you'll have the money, even if now you have no idea how you gonna get it. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you
  17. I think most chances are that the on line update is behind. Anyway, it might mean progress, so that's good, right?
  18. Just keeping this thread alive If anyone hears anything from the Canadian schools, please let us know... ...so we can FREAK OUT some more

  21. You're right, of course. And of course, it doesn't matter... Knowing these things doesn't make the wait any easier. But thanks for lifting everybody's spirit! It's important. It's nice to be reminded by someone who's in the same situation that it's not the end of the world (and I'm just talking about the anticipation. Haven't even been rejected YET!)
