  1. czenzi, it does seem bizarre. my guess is the person was up for a McNair or something...
  2. i have no clue. my magic eight ball of a brain only goes so far! i know they're usually early though, and i have a few friends who applied.
  3. it seems there have been a few phone calls last year, but by and large the notifications seem to come by e-mail/ASF page.
  4. Previous* not precious. That's what I get for being on gradcafe on my iPhone while I'm supposed to be reading...
  5. Not me, and my bf didn't hear either... Sunday is weird. Could be a McNair or other big fellowship as in precious years the Jan notifications mentioned things like that. I definitely think with the early deadline it'll be soon... Agh.
  6. anyone wanna claim the maryland acceptance? also, if you have any other info that you are willing to share, that would be great! lastly, congrats!!
  7. mistral- i had a friend who got into UC-Davis in January last year. They really wanted her, I think.
  8. i will have my MA in may, my subject scores are still dismal, i'm using the same pretty good (almost 1400 combined) GRE scores, i have a clearly defined research topic/SOP, teaching experience, 5 conferences including an international one, i am responsible for coordinating a speaker on campus and i feel a hell of a lot better about myself than i did in my application round 2 years ago. how far will this get me? it remains to be seen... that being said, a friend from my MA program last year got into 3 or so schools- 1 top 25, 1 top 40 and waitlisted at one top 20. it's a crapshoot, dear friends.
  9. hey hopeful woolfian! congrats on tufts. definitely on my hopeful list for next yr!

  10. Hi all, Just a question, I was an avid poster here last year but am attending a program and applying again to PhD's next year. Last yr I applied to Brandeis and got into the MA (though i applied to PhD) with a 1/4 tuition remission as I know they were in dire financial straits. They accepted 2 funded PhD's last year and idk how many MA's. I'm wondering if anyone knows how many PhD's got through this year/what the funding was like. I feel like a stronger candidate and may apply again because the guy who called me told me he felt I was a great fit but that they could only offer me 1/4 tuition.. but I wonder if it's worth it if they're accepting a tiny amount of applicants again. Thanks!
