It's an amazing place, for sure. My track record thus far precludes me from thinking an acceptance is plausible (3 rejects, 1 waitlist). What do you study, woolferine? My hunch is modernism...
-
Congrats, woolferine! Is that your first acceptance?
-
Gah not another one. Rutgers has been my dream since like, '09

Last week I got a call from a jersey (rutgers!) area code that was a wrong number:( -
Same, Trip.

Anyone want to claim that acceptance? Such a long shot for me, but still hanging on.

I don't trust any of these schools. I was told by the grad coordinator that I wasnt offered admission, but I don't even underestimate the fact that they could still have you on a backburner and a waitlist could turn up. One of my profs who went to Duke was rejected outright by an official letter and then accepted a few weeks later...

One of my fellow MA students has a degree in religion, he's getting his MA in lit and just interviewed for the Stanford phd. we also have a phd student in my current program whose BA was in nursing, though the program I'm speaking of is admittedly not super prestigious. And I remember meeting someone at Rutgers English open house who had her BA in a different field.

Haha ugh! I'm in a funded MA/PhD where I've been accepted to continue on but unfortunately I'm not interested and never really intended to do my PhD here. I can take my MA as a standalone though.

I got a rejection from Brandeis yesterday after I got into their MA back in 09 and was told what a good fit it was. Oh the times, they are a changing'. But it's also hard to get in places w an MA

Hi hermia (my phone keeps changing that to hernia... Which is what this process causes). I agree, this is a bizarre one! My field is 19c British and American, feminist theory specifically issues of womens body image/self-starvation, with a dash of food studies.

anyone else hear anything from BC? i'm clutching onto some hope for this one...
-
In a similar vein, someone just posted an email rejection. Anyone wanna claim it? I didn't think rejections went out via email.

katelynn- i'm also waitlisted but did not get a TA interview. i emailed Wanda Bak regarding this. eeek. what is your field btw? -
Hi severedletters, congrats! Do you have any other info? It seems no one (at least on this forum) has been accepted yet...
-
@Marlowe- PMed you
-
Ah I'm sorry! I know the hurt that can cause. It is interesting. I work mainly on identifying anorexic behavior in 19th century texts and how early instances of a disease called "anorexia mirabilis" (divinely inspired starvation) strikingly evoke the modern disease, and how texts deal with huger/starvation.

@perry- 19th c British and American, specifically issues of body image/self starvation in Victorian texts, and food studies. Do we share an interest?!

Clarissa is on my *list* if only for its importance in the eating disorder/self-starvation conversation. Now, if only I could crack page 1... Another Richardson, Pamela, was a page-turner up until 2/3 of the way through when she gets married and becomes boring.
