  1. It's an amazing place, for sure. My track record thus far precludes me from thinking an acceptance is plausible (3 rejects, 1 waitlist). What do you study, woolferine? My hunch is modernism...
  2. Congrats, woolferine! Is that your first acceptance?
  3. Gah not another one. Rutgers has been my dream since like, '09
  4. I'm waitlisted and my status says "applied"
  5. Gah I know! It seems prestigious and like a blast:( I mentioned my acceptance on my CC/Sop since I wasn't sure if I was going or not (and I still hold a glimmer of hope) Hopefully they're impressed! Haha
  6. Haha oh I have an excuse for Rutgers- I'm from NY and have always had jersey friends. It's 732 btw
  7. Last week I got a call from a jersey (rutgers!) area code that was a wrong number:(
  8. I'm conflicted on this one as well. I was accepted to the Bram Stoker centenary conference at Trinity College in Dublin in July but I won't be able to justify the necessary expenditure to go
  9. Same, Trip.
  10. Anyone want to claim that acceptance? Such a long shot for me, but still hanging on.
  11. I don't trust any of these schools. I was told by the grad coordinator that I wasnt offered admission, but I don't even underestimate the fact that they could still have you on a backburner and a waitlist could turn up. One of my profs who went to Duke was rejected outright by an official letter and then accepted a few weeks later...
  12. Sorry for capitalization stuff, using my iPhone while I should be reading, obviously!
  13. One of my fellow MA students has a degree in religion, he's getting his MA in lit and just interviewed for the Stanford phd. we also have a phd student in my current program whose BA was in nursing, though the program I'm speaking of is admittedly not super prestigious. And I remember meeting someone at Rutgers English open house who had her BA in a different field.
  14. Haha ugh! I'm in a funded MA/PhD where I've been accepted to continue on but unfortunately I'm not interested and never really intended to do my PhD here. I can take my MA as a standalone though.
  15. I got a rejection from Brandeis yesterday after I got into their MA back in 09 and was told what a good fit it was. Oh the times, they are a changing'. But it's also hard to get in places w an MA
  16. Hi hermia (my phone keeps changing that to hernia... Which is what this process causes). I agree, this is a bizarre one! My field is 19c British and American, feminist theory specifically issues of womens body image/self-starvation, with a dash of food studies.
  17. anyone else hear anything from BC? i'm clutching onto some hope for this one...
  18. In a similar vein, someone just posted an email rejection. Anyone wanna claim it? I didn't think rejections went out via email.
  19. katelynn- i'm also waitlisted but did not get a TA interview. i emailed Wanda Bak regarding this. eeek. what is your field btw?
  20. Hi severedletters, congrats! Do you have any other info? It seems no one (at least on this forum) has been accepted yet...
  21. @Marlowe- PMed you
  22. Ah I'm sorry! I know the hurt that can cause. It is interesting. I work mainly on identifying anorexic behavior in 19th century texts and how early instances of a disease called "anorexia mirabilis" (divinely inspired starvation) strikingly evoke the modern disease, and how texts deal with huger/starvation.
  23. @perry- 19th c British and American, specifically issues of body image/self starvation in Victorian texts, and food studies. Do we share an interest?!
  24. Clarissa is on my *list* if only for its importance in the eating disorder/self-starvation conversation. Now, if only I could crack page 1... Another Richardson, Pamela, was a page-turner up until 2/3 of the way through when she gets married and becomes boring.
