Haha arrivant, staten island would be doable but you have to take a ferry from the most northern part of the island to get to the city. And the train system there is super slow. And driving everywhere is toll-laden. I had a boyfriend who lived there, I'm a brooklyn gal.

so i have a doozy for you all in terms of odd coincidences that happen when you're waiting for notifications from schools. i get an email from an unfamiliar name with the subject "it's decision time!" of course this would be an unfortunate subject for a rejection but nevertheless... it's from a book publisher rep asking me if i want to order books for next semester.

Dagny- i emailed eve keller and she said i wasn't being offered admission. i'm not sure if they're still making offers but she said "official word comes from the graduate school" which is bizarre because i know they call those accepted... take that for what it's worth. also she said ~10% admission rate.

Same not wanting to sound horrible but I teach english right now at a top-30 while doing my MA. i could write a paper on the anatomy of a worm with my degree in English/American studies better than most of these kids could write a 4 page expository paper on a text with fairly overt meanings.

Spastic - idk what goes on with stony brook. I saw 2 acceptances-1 phone and 1 snail mail. They do have a small cohort so that could be it- no clue. I am from the area (kind of) and really like it there! Fingers crossed.

Romeo and Juliet! Despite two Shakespeare courses. Also, anything Virginia Woolf, Faulkner, the entirety of Paradise Lost.

GAH I know. Or worse, when you tell someone you didn't get into "X" university, which is normally thought of as a middling sort of school, but just happens to have a top graduate department in English, they think you're a moron.

Both me (umass waitlist gal) and my bf (umd acceptance guy) have not received anything. I pray for a waitlist. Rutgers is 40 minutes from my home and my best friend is doing undergrad there. And there is a great fellowship and good shopping nearby;) and they're amazing in Victorian.

that's my field too! they're very strong in it, so hopefully they'll be taking more than one.
