  1. Transcripts tell a better story than what letters end up after your name.
  2. GREs aren't magic. I have a 170 Verbal under the new system and only ended up with two options.
  3. I didn't really get anything exciting until orientation. I think I got a second envelope (after the unaccompanied acceptance letter) that had some fliers and stuff in it, though.
  4. Doing it through distance education with a university in the UK or South Africa is probably your only option. Generally speaking, that isn't how the North American model works. If you don't mind working with ultra-conservatives and teaching in schools of that sort, I think Wheaton has a 3-year program.
  5. Oh, yes, that makes a lot more sense. PM Sent.
  6. There are no separate ThM courses. You can fill your degree with M* courses (both from the Div School and the Religion department), you can get permission to participate in doctoral seminars, and/or you can do 1 or 2 directed studies. I did all doctoral seminars and 1 directed study (a requirement for the thesis option).
  7. A lot of schools treat ThM programs as piggy banks, but I've got my fingers crossed that the Duke funding package is yours.
  8. I'm equally comfortable in both settings. It makes no difference to me.
  9. Is he/she still deliberating?
  10. See, Westerholm is the sort I'd expect to be at McMaster Div, so this just creates more confusion for me.
  11. Texas. I feel a little embarrassed about my outburst, but I don't like to delete things. They are apparently making their way through the waitlist.
  12. Sorry, I don't know the people in that area.
  13. Take French. If you move to Germany, you'll learn German very rapidly via immersion.
  14. Has anyone heard anything from UT? This is getting kind of ridiculous. According to the results search two people have been offered spots for RAM, but both turned them down. Then they sent rejections to several people, but they haven't made more offers to anyone else (at least that have shown up here). I'm about ready to just commit to another school and withdraw my application.
  15. As a soon to be PhD student with 50k in debt (and who married 80k of debt), take the funded option. Both places will provide you with a great education, but neither can guarantee a future. People get into PhD programs from Harvard's MTS all the time, so you have just as good odds of getting in somewhere with none of the risk.
  16. Well, if I were in your shoes, I'd definitely go the UToronto route. Great reputation + superior funding = you can't lose. Also, do you really want to spend the rest of your life explaining to Americans that you have no connection to Stanley Porter?
  17. What is your area?
  18. I'll second the endorsement of Toronto. I've know several people with connections to UToronto, and they are all successful people. I wouldn't advise paying out of pocket for a doctorate in the humanities, though. (Hence my initial question.)
  19. I am under the impression that Canadian universities don't fund Americans. Is that true?
  20. Ar you the one coming to UNC? If so, I know a ton of people in that program and they are simply awesome.
  21. I don't know, but I doubt it. I emailed last week, and my email was simply ignored.
  22. Mine says "In Review"...
  23. Sorry, my degree is always unfunded, so I can't help you there.
  24. I've loved my time at Duke. Make sure to take advantage of all the incredible resources while you are here.
