  1. There is no masters thesis, since it's only one year. Let me know if you have any other questions!
  2. Last year I heard from Columbia's LSMA on May 5th. It might vary by department though.
  3. Yale fully funds at least some spots for the EAS MA, but I'm not sure if it's everyone. I think it's at least 4-5 per year.
  4. Slept through half of my last day of a class the other day because I somehow turned off my alarm in my sleep... granted it was after being up until 4 writing a paper and then not able to sleep until 6 because I had to battle a spider that crawled across my arm right when I was about to go to sleep... UGH dorms... What I did in undergrad and when working and will apparently have to adopt again is having a second alarm on the other side of the room set for about 10 minutes after I'd want to get up, just in case. That way there's no shutting it off and falling back asleep because you have to actually get out of bed to turn it off.
  5. I got the decision email today too, for East Asian Studies. The link in the email didn't work - I had to copy and paste it into my browser. I got in, but I've already decided to go to Yale. I was a bit concerned that it wasn't a "real" program, but Yale was my first choice anyway. I'd been warned that Columbia's MA in EALC was really difficult without more language study, so I decided not to apply to that yet, though they did offer to transfer my application.
  6. I applied for Asian Studies. On the 15th I got an email asking if I wanted to switch my application to a different department that they thought might fit my interests better, but since I was already accepted elsewhere (better fit, plus funding), I just asked to withdraw my application. Long story short, sounds like the departments were in the process of reading apps a week ago, so hopefully soon.

I'll be at Yale for the 1-year MA in East Asian Studies, focusing on Japan. I applied for housing in HGS on April 1 and received an offer on Friday for a spot, though it was my 3rd choice for bathroom situation (shared semi-private).
  8. Got the letter yesterday - fellowship covering full tuition, plus a stipend. Totally wasn't expecting that! It was definitely my first choice over Columbia, so I've already accepted the offer.
  9. Thanks! Nothing in the letter on the website, but it mentions a letter "containing details" to follow in the mail, so we'll see!
  10. Speak of the devil - not 30 seconds after replying I got the email from Yale and I got in!
  11. Thanks! That's incredibly helpful. I'm hoping you're right, though given how few people usually post on the results page, it's not a big enough sample to put my mind totally at ease!
  12. I'm still waiting to hear back from Yale's EAS MA - anyone else? It looks like last year the rejections went out in late February and the acceptances about two weeks later, but the first round of rejections were so much later this year, and no news is not necessarily good news... WaitingImpatiently, how do you like the program there? You mentioned before about 4 out of 15 students getting funding - do you mean that 15 that attend or 15 are accepted? Degree: M.A. East Asian Studies, focus on Japan Schools Applied To: Yale EAS MA, Columbia Liberal Studies MA Asian Studies Fellowships Applied For: None Undergraduate School (or school type) Major: Top 20 liberal arts college, Japanese major, Sociology minor Experience in Asia or in Field: 1 semester study abroad in Japan, 4+ years language study, used Japanese in a previous position at work
