  1. Thats awesome. My university does not allow any changes after the internal competition. I don't get it but seriously, I thought it was in their interest to let us edit one more time before the final submission
  2. Just got the news that I passed the internal competition and my school will forward my application....here goes my crack at this bad boy for one last time......yup..April it is for the panic party lol
  3. Similar scores in experience...with similar activities...donno what I can do during the short summer to reinvent the universe..... Btw...the waitlist seems overly long...I mean do you seriously expect 25 people to turn it down ???
  4. I had similar experience scores...with similar activities....donno what I can do to improve during the summer before my next chance to re-apply.
  5. Might as well give everyone on the PGSD waitlist an award........well.....?
  6. I am still surprised that I am on the waitlist in the first place....esp considering my rank is past the 50% mark....
  7. Yes...extremely close...2-3 spots away I suspect...
  8. yes...but that depends on your rank too and factors outside your control (i.e. someone else decide to go abroad)....
  9. I heard the competition in health/biology side of things is quite random. They literally throw applications up in the air and pick the ones that land on the floor first.....
  10. I think you can opt to apply for CGS-D anyway and do the downgrade later on.... they probably leave the option open on purpose to convince top students to stay
  11. Again this speaks volumes about the cut-throat nature of competition in your committee. With this kinda stats, you are a shoe in for PGS-D in smaller committees. I would say you even have a shot for CGS-D. I can assure you that post-doc and professorship don't care a single bit about scholarship record. Publication is the key among other things like teaching experience and the ability to get grant money. But again, in your field, the competition can be cut throat like you said .... Wait a minute, I just realized you are in Comp Sci ??? To hell with NSERC lol......you have a long list of accomplished ppl in your field without even an undergrad degree let alone PhDs...... ??
  12. If someone downgrades because they have to take it to a foreign institution, then that means no one from the waitlist will move up ???? Instead someone from PGS-D will upgrade to CGS-D in exchange for the spot ? Am I right?
  13. I felt like we should start a new thread dedicated to the alternate and waitlist. I will start from myself: Committee: 201 Avg Research Score 65 Avg Experience/Academic Score: 45 (my undergrad gpa is just above the cut-off for grad school admission but I have tons of industry experience. I wonder if I should be happy with this score as the work experience may have balanced things out a bit..definitely little I can change for next time) Rank: 54% (extremely unlikely to move out of the waitlist) if the cut-off is around 42%. One thing I am surprised is the size of this waitlist. Apparently it goes all the way to 54% this year. I imagine I must be on the tail end of it.
  14. score almost exactly the same as yours...actually they are the same as mine is only a few points higher than yours in each category. Unfortunately we are at the tail end of the waitlist if you assume 40% as the rough cut-off.
  15. I don't think that is an option...reviewers are not asked to provide written comments on each file. You can request to see what your references said about you in the Comments on Applicant section ... that's about it.... They do seem to put some emphasis on your publication record. I know someone who got Vanier but only offered PGS-D by NSERC with 0 journal paper.
  16. Out of curiosity...what has changed since your last application? I got waitlisted this yr and honestly the only thing I can change next yr is revise my proposal, get one more publication and some more leadership stuff (which they probably don't care anyway).....
  17. that is strange...I thought it's standarized and we are all scored out of 100 with a 50/50 split
  18. Why is your score in the single digits ? Mine is 40 sth ....
  19. I got a similar ranking in another committee...right around the Belly....I am actually surprised that the waistlist goes all the way to the median ... I keep wondering if the cut-off for waitlist is based on the approx number of people who turned down their award from previous year or what....
  20. Now I am motivated more than ever to get that 1st author paper out and re-apply this October !!!
  21. Alternate shortlist....2:53 pm last name "Y" ...committee 201...looks like you do need to up your journal publications for this .... I have only one 2nd author paper plus a few conferences....
  22. I felt civil and mech engineering is getting close now...
  23. looks pretty cut-throat....unless EE is a small committee
  24. Congrats...finally engineering starts to trickle in...
