  1. it's already midnight in Ottawa and still nothing......not a good sign..
  2. I think it's a plot such that we won't crash the server....
  3. still nothing......it's past 4 pm in Ottawa....chances are it's gonna be tmr....
  4. Maybe because we are PhD students...they expect us to handle the uncertainty better.....
  5. Highly suspicious that it is gonna coincide with the CGS-M release which is accordingly scheduled at 8 am EST on April 15....
  6. Midnight eastern time ???
  7. for public insitutions mostly....private sector still works on this day..
  8. You know what..the only sensible explanation here is..between making this Easter the best Easter for some and making this Easter the worst for many, NSERC picked the middle ground by making this Easter the most boring and average Easter for all....
  9. 17th is no longer mid-April......again how hard is sending out emails to approx 1700 applicants ? You never know...just look at how they messed up the Phoenix Pay System...
  10. So we are talking abt Tuesday the 14th then as Easter Monday is also a holiday ....
  11. I don't think they know the exact release date but April 15 is a safe answer....it could be that huge swaths of students emailed your univ admin instead of NSERC and they just grabbed sth to shut them up....
  12. If I were you, I would not worry about PGS-D at all......while I secrety wish my committee group is full of Vanier scholars this year ?
  13. I didn't apply for vanier last yr but consider to apply this yr......do you really have to re-invent the world to score high on leadership ?? My leadership part is quite "boring", better than average but certainly nothing groundbreaking (i.e. organized a few conferences here and there)
  14. It could indicate that the cohort from McGill is not that competitive this year compared to other schools ???
  15. Out of curiosity, is each committee allocated a certain quota or rank cutoff since the ranking is confined within each committee ??? It seems unfair if someone from biomedical is compared to someone from civil in a master ranking list.
  16. So you got the email from Vanier I assume? Let's hope the release of Vanier and CGSD is managed separately..... At this point no news is bad news....
  17. Nothing from my end. However, there could be a chance that the results will be released together with Vanier which is a firm date on April 7 (either this midnight or tmr midnight).
  18. Which time zone ?
  19. A general statement such as "results will be released in April" is quite safe....I thought the review process is mostly virtual as each member receives and reviews applications at the comfort of their home/office. The Competition Week and all review/chair meetings are also virtual (as per the pgs-d committee guide available online). They can work from home anyway with or without COVID-19. However, with that being said, the committee members are mostly profs at universities. Anything scheduled in March, likely those review meetings, will get delayed due to class cancellation, preparation of online instruction, self-isolation from conferences/travel etc.
  20. So only CIHR and Vanier gave out a specific date for releasing the results ? Not sure how many of you applied for NSERC....they only stated that results will be made available in April (it could be early, mid, or late April!!!)
  21. That's right! Friday night is also a possibility. Good luck!
  22. Why 7th not 9th?
  23. This is driving me nuts....I suspect we will get some sorts of answers before Easter break. I am constantly checking my NSERC account, this forum and my email almost on a half hourly basis. April is such a vague word. Also I felt like the mid-April wording in the auto-reply is a typo.
  24. I am referring to non-thesis master in general with a project built-in (most cases). I was wondering if 3.0 is cut-off or considered enough. How hard is it to get into UIUC or UMich caliber schools without asking for funding. Thanks for the advice.
  25. I am in my final year of civil structural eng with 1.5 years of internship experience in the industry. However, my gpa is a bit on the lower side of the scale approx 3.15 due to some time management issues before. I spent too much time on humanities and reading non-eng books, which I don't think it's a legitimate reason for my GPA. However, my internship really changed me and got me interested in working on challenging projects in the future. I learned a great deal from my work experience and would like to continue learning in a more systematic manner. To do that, I think I need a M.Eng (non-thesis) to build my credential and confidence. I was wondering if this gpa is good enough for a course based M.Eng at reputable schools like UIUC or Michigan with fair/average LOR and GRE scores. I don't need any funding. Any input is certainly welcomed !! Thanks
