SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants

My primary interest is autism (that is why I got interested in the field) and also literacy/language. I could see changing my mind once I get into grad school, though! I really loved the observations that I did with clients with aphasia, which I didn't expect, so it's hard to know what will end up actually catching my interest the most. Congrats to everyone who got acceptances today! -

I'm not sure if anyone applied to UNC Greensboro, but I got an email from them saying that decisions would be out between April 1- April 15th. Toooo long. -

Today I got an acceptance in the mail from University of Memphis. Is anyone else planning to go to the open house? Good luck to you all this week!!! -

I'm sorry to hear that, good luck with your future notifications. Quick question...was it sent to your current or permanent address? Just trying to get an idea of where to expect mine! I'm on spring break, so I won't get to see mine for more than a week if they send it to my school apartment :/ -

Good luck! I definitely didn't get mine today, because I saw the mail being delivered and then my box was empty when I checked. Buuut I live in Florida, so it makes sense. -

Sorry for bombarding you with Marquette questions, Inbee...but do you see the "next step forms" thing that we were talking about on your checkmarq account? Also, I didn't apply for the BIES program. So maybe the difference does come from you applying for that jbw! Don't give up hope! -

I'm sorry to hear that :/ One good way to think about it is that, with how competitive these programs are, I think that most of us are bound to get at least one rejection/waitlist...sooo, just hope that you got yours out of the way! If you don't mind me asking, what state/region do you live in? I am wondering if maybe I live further from Milwaukee than the people who have heard back already. -

I think that it's strange. I've only been mailed two things so far (the checkmarq info for Marquette, and my acceptance for Dallas), and they both were sent home. And yet, even though I'm pretty sure that Marquette will send the letter home since they did for checkmarq, I have checked my mail here like 3 times today...ha. -

Are schools mailing you guys things to the address that you put as your current address, or your permanent address? I would have thought that they would send things to my current address (my apartment at school), but a few things so far have been sent to my permanent address (my parent's house). It's really annoying! -

I'm not sure, maybe! I honestly haven't checked that account since I first went on to confirm that all of the materials were in, so I don't really remember. Hopefully we do hear something, good luck to you! (and everyone else here who applied there) -

Ahhh about Marquette!! If they mailed the decisions, I hope that I get mine really soon, because in a few days I am going out of town and I will be gone for more than a week...it would drive me CRAZY knowning that I probably had something waiting in the mail for me! -

Sure, I contacted Robert Stillman, the program head. I found his contact information towards the bottom of this page- http://bbs.utdallas.edu/comd/ I also emailed him a few times during the application process, and he was always super nice and helpful. And yeah, that would be great! I am going to be traveling with my mother and we will be there for a few days...definitely looking for some things that we would both be interested in doing. -

Hey, sure I don't remember the exact date that I sent my application, but it was a few days before Christmas. Then on February 3, I recieved an email from the director of the program telling me that I had been accepted. A little more than a week later, I recieved the offical acceptance letter in the mail. I'm honestly quite confused about the admission process...it seems really random! I heard back so soon, but I know that a lot of people haven't heard anything yet. And if you look at the results board on here, people have been hearing back on random days, sooo I'm guessing that admissions are rolling. I hope that you hear back soon! Also, I haven't visited yet (I haven't even been to Texas before), but I am actually going for a visit in a few weeks! I'll let you know what I think! -
I sent an email to Kelly Fox in graduate admissions, asking if I could verify that everything was complete with my application, because I had heard that other applicants had recieved an email which said that their application was complete and gave an idea of when they could expect to hear back. She responded saying- "I'm sorry you did not receive confirmation that your file is complete. I've looked into our system and it appears that your file was marked complete on January 18th and has been sent to the Speech department for review. I usually advise applicants that they may expect a letter from the department in early April in regards to an admission decision." I'm guessing that something similar happened with you (why else would we have CLAWS accounts that said that our app was complete?), but you might want to double check, if it would make you feel better!

hmm strange, I didn't get that email! But I did get the one that they sent awhile ago saying that decisions would be out by March 6, so you would think that everything is okay with my app, but I don't know... -
I literally didn't know that law existed... Anyways I honestly can't imagine it being a problem. From my experience, I am pretty sure that law isn't enforced at all. I know couples who live together with no problem. Also, I lived for a year with someone of the opposite sex (not a boyfriend, just a friend) and nothing was said...

That's really great to know that you have heard such good things about St. Xavier!! Is there anything in particular that you have to say about it? I do know about that location. I think that I would be okay with that...because I'm not used to living in big cities and I feel like it would almost be a distraction for me...but at the same time, I like the idea of being relatively close, for when I have the time to go experience it. I've been wondering about whether I would want to bring my car there. From what you know of the area, is it a convenient place to have one? Meaning do you think that in that area, most apartments/places that you would drive would parking lots? It's just kind of hard for me to picture what it is like there...I know that it's not in the downtown area, but I just always think of places like Chicago as areas where it would be more trouble than it is worth to try to have a car. -

Yeah, I would really love Chicago too! I'm not totally sure yet what to think about St. Xavier, though...I guess I'll figure that out if I get in, haha. I thought about applying to Rush, but I don't really want to go the medical route (opposite of you, it seems). Well good luck to you with all of the schools! Maybe we will end up at the same school/city -

Speaking of Chicago, what do you know about St. Xavier? -

The school is fairly small, but really pretty. It is basically right in the downtown area. The clinic area was nice...basically it is a section of a large building and there are individual therapy rooms, some bigger therapy rooms (she showed me a room that is set up kind of like a play room for little kids, and another one that is designed to work with ASD patients), faculty offices, a really nice resource room with therapy supplies, and a study room and computer room for students to use. I was really impressed with all that I saw there. I'm not really sure what to think about Milwaukee...to be fair it was my first time there and I was only there for about 2 days, so there is obviously a lot that I didn't see. But the location is definitely one thing that would hold me back from chosing that school...mostly because I am from the south and if I go somewhere where I would have to adjust to really cold weather, I would rather sacrifice that for somewhere like Chicago (which I love...that is definitely my first choice city-wise).
