SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants
AudioEnvy replied to SJS's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Ah nice, I hope that we do hear back that soon!! Marquette was sort of a random application decision for me...I happened to be in Milwaukee for a few days over the summer and knew that they had a program, so although I had no real plans of applying there, I randomly decided to walk around the campus and check it out. I ended up finding the building that the speech clinic is in, and even though I hadn't talked to anyone about visiting, I decided so just go and see if they had anything like handouts about the program that they could give me. I ended up talking to the secretary in the office there for awhile, and she was SUPER nice. She answered lots of questions for me, gave me a tour of the clinic, and even introduced me to a few people on the faculty. I liked what I saw enough that I decided to apply! -

Off the subject of admissions...does anyone have ideas of good questions to be sure to ask the schools that we are thinking about attending? I am planning to visit UT Dallas soon, and I know some of the things that I definitely want to ask them, but I'm sure that there are things that I'm not thinking of. I figured maybe we could brainstorm a list together, because I'm guessing that lots of us will be visiting schools in the next few months! -

I didn't apply to USF, but one of my friends did, and she said something to me about decisions going out on March 12th. I'm not positive how she found that out, but I think that she got an email about it. -

The King's Speech. haha, I'm partly kidding, but I'm sure that there were people that got interested in the field as a result of that movie. But yeah...it does seem that a lot of schools got significantly more applicants this year. I agree that it's scary : -

Congrats to you guys for making it through the first round for Rush! -
I did call them awhile after I sent my application, just to confirm that everything had been recieved...the person that I talked to in the department told me that they didn't have any of the applications yet, but they transferred me to graduate admissions and that person said that my application was complete. Maybe I'll try calling again, but I just don't really know what to say since they have already told me that they have everything...I'll probably try, though.

Congrats to everyone who has heard from schools! I know that I shouldn't complain because I have at least heard back from one of my schools...but I'm still dying to hear from the rest!! I just want to be able to make my decision and know what direction my life is going in next year, ha. -

That is reeeeeeally strange! I didn't get that email. I got a different one shortly after I sent my application. It says- "Welcome to Saint Xavier University! As a result of your interest in Saint Xavier University, you have been granted access to CLAWS (Cougars Local Academic Website) where you will find important information such as your financial aid award, admission status, course section offerings, and much more!" And then it had my login information. When I logged in, it basically just lists my admission status as "application complete". It also lists my GRE score.

You got an email? In response to an email that you sent, or just something that you got after you applied? The only thing that I have gotten from them is an email with information to log into my online account.

Did you hear about when St. Xavier will be sending their decisons, or are you just guessing? Also, have you visited? If so, what are your thoughts?? I was in the Chicago area over the summer and I visited...but I only saw the general campus, I didn't see inside the speech clinic or talk with anyone in the department (they said that they don't do visits over the summer). So I feel like I still don't know much about the program.

Thank you! I don't remember the exact date that I sent my application, but it was a few days before Christmas. I think that you should be fine as long as the only reason that your application is incomplete is because of the final transcript! I just checked my acccount, and it also says that I require that (I'm graduating in May too). Best of luck to you!! -

No, I applied for the master's...I was shocked, I didn't expect to hear back so soon!! I checked the results page on here afterwards, and I noticed that someone else reported a few days ago that they were notified through email...so maybe they do rolling admissions?? I definitely wasn't aware of that, though. -

I got an email today from UT Dallas, I was accepted!!! -
I asked this a few months ago, but this thread was really dead at the time, so I am going to ask again. Do any of you guys have any suggestions for where to live for St. Xavier University? It is in Mount Greenwood, which I have heard definitely isn't the liveliest area. I don't necessarily need to be in the center of Chicago activity, but I would definitely like to live somewhere where 1) There is at least sooome interesting close by things to do, and 2) Easy transportation downtown, for when I do want to experience all that. Would you guys suggest just staying the Mount Greenwood area, or is there somewhere else that would have the things that I listed above, but also be fairly close/easy to get to St. Xavier?

I applied to FSU and UCF. I haven't heard anything yet from UCF, but I got an email from FSU just saying that they would be sending out all decisions by March 6. Did you get that? -

I'm actually from Florida, but I just kind of applied all over the place. Good luck!! -
I also applied to St. Xavier and UCF, redheadedasian. We have similar stats also...what are your thoughts about the competitiveness of those schools? I feel like they are problably the least competitive schools that I am applying to, but I still don't feel all that safe about them. It's stressful!

Did anyone here apply to University of Memphis? I got an email from graduate admissions a few days ago saying that they didn't have my "final college trancript" (they already got one that included my fall grades, so I assume that final means the one after this spring semester)...and the email says that my application will be given to my program once all items have been submitted to graduate admissions. I'm trying to get in contact with them about it, but I just don't get that, because obviously I can't give them my final college transcipt before the applications are due.... -

Have any of your CSDCAS applications been verified yet?? If so, when did you submit it? I sent mine more than 2 weeks ago, and they still haven't verified and sent my application...I'm getting kind of nervous! -

This might be a stupid question, but do you guys know if a school's deadline for CSDCAS applications means that they actually have to recieve it by that date, or just that you have to submit it to CSDCAS by that date? I have 1/15 deadline on there, and I was going to wait to submit it until I get my updated grades (my school will send out the updated transcripts on 12/22)...do you think that it would be a bad idea to wait another week? I'm nervous now!
