  1. It irks me that US News doesn't have Anthropology ranking.
  2. I'm getting myself one of those pens from staples that records and then syncs the recording to written notes. Useful AND ridiculously cool. I'm also going to start using the lucky mug I bought myself months ago but kept wrapped and hidden in my closet until I got into school, but I might wait on that until I actually move. Exciting, I know. I WISH I could do a tattoo, but I am waaaaay to poor right now. Maybe for graduation?
  3. Happy to know where I'm going in the fall.

Hey thanks! I didn't see these comments until just now lol. I'll be doing the Biomedical Anthropology MS at Binghamton University. I'm ridiculously excited. :)

  4. Hi guys! I'll be at Binghamton in the Fall working on an MS in Biomedical Anthropology and I'd love to meet some other folks who'll be going there.
  5. So it's official...I'll be starting the MS program in Biomedical Anthropology at Binghamton in the fall. If you'll be there too, let me know!!
  6. I was accepted but declined this afternoon in favor of Binghamton. I was going to wait to hear back about funding but in the end I went with my gut, and my gut said SUNY. Where else did you apply?
  7. both apps officially submitted. Now to cross my fingers and wait.

  8. Hey guys! I'd really, really like to get in on this SoP exchange as well. I am applying to one Anthro MS program and on comebined Anthro MA/MPH, so you folks with social science and/or public health backgrounds might be interested. @Bodywithoutorgans- I think we have all probably done a fair bit of reading- on this site or on others- about what does and does not belong in a good personal statement. We can share some of those tips and tricks with one another. We can also help to critique one another's writing on a more general level (Does the essay have a logical, easy to follow flow? Do we give adequate evidence to back up our claims/main ideas?) as potential grad student we are likely to be fairly literate and potentially good at that sort of thing. Honestly, though, I think another thing that we are offering is moral support. This is an intimidating process, and I know that I feel better every time I am reminded that you guys are all trying to accomplish the same thing. I think sharing our SoP with each other is good for community building And in case there is any uncertainty whatsoever, my response is also completely serious and not even a little bit snarky. I actually think it was a good question and I hope my thoughts on the matter make at least a little bit of sense.
  9. For folks who are looking for applied medical anth and/or public health, the University of South Florida and U of Pittsburgh both have combined programs that look pretty good.
  10. I'm applying to USF in Tampa and SUNY Binghamton for Medical Anth masters programs. And to whoever made the comment likening the personal statement to a root canal- I agree 100%. Who would have thought a few pages of talking about stuff we love could be so difficult?
