  1. they've released some of their decisions by specialization... just not mine yet.
  2. I wonder if SFS will release their decisions tomorrow too?
  3. The only rankings I've really looked at are the Foreign Policy magazine. The US News rankings are, in my opinion, for undergrads and parents that want to brag about their kids without having to know anything about the subject/school.
  4. if you haven't told them, tell them ASAP, especially if you plan on using them as a reference down the road. As someone that has had the opportunity to write recommendation letters for interns/employees applying to various other jobs/schools you want the people working for you to be successful, and any boss worth having will be supportive as long as you don't waylay him/her with the information in the form of a two-week notice.
  5. got my (lack of) funding information from Elliott. Looks like they are off the list like AU, not worth the money to me.
  6. Wait, so you guys are telling me my "One score and 8 years ago, my parents brought forth into this a world a child destined to work passionately in the service of the United States government in an unglamorous but steadily progressing career. In my early fetal development my infinite passion for...." might be over the top?!?!
  7. Did you apply to the MPAff or MGPS?
  8. and in at Texas A&M Bush School, funding next week too, double woot!
  9. In at George Washington-Security Policy. Funding info next week, Woot!
  10. thanks for the info LBJane. Do you know anything about the dual degree route, specifically with the business school? My understanding is that it is "easier" to get into once you are going to LBJ. That being said, it is a top 25 program, so "easier" can mean a lot of things.
  11. what is your rationale behind a second masters degree since you already have one from a top 10 program? is columbia another MA or is it a phd?
  12. in at SIS U.S. Foreign Policy but just get an error screen when I try to check the financial aid info. arg.
  13. just admitted as well. no idea on financial aid yet, they make it a process to find out that information don't they...
  14. I applied to the U.S. Foreign Policy and am still waiting. I haven't seen anyone from that specialization post yet, so hope remains. I am surprised at some of the poor funding offers to the super qualified candidates, some with a full ride to Gtown... and then minimal at AU. People had told me that AU was a bit of an enigma in terms of acceptances and funding, and I guess it is proving again for 2012.
  15. MGPS. My wife was also accepted yesterday for a Ph.D. in Education at Austin, so an excellent option. Even at $10k, it is going to be hard to match financially unless I get a full ride somewhere (unlikely).
  16. admitted to UT-Austin LBJ, woot! Out-of-state tuition waiver and $1k stipend. Was hoping for something more substantial, but the cost of living is low and even at full pop $10k in tuition isn't so bad. Planning on applying for the MBA dual degree during the first semester if I go to LBJ.
  17. was the decision posted on the "Connect VIP Page?" If I am going to refresh a page 100 times an hour, I want to make sure it is the right one....
  18. according to the results page, UT-Austin LBJ has sent out a rejection. and so it begins...
  19. Congrats ... on all the admits! With a signature line like yours, you gotta tell us, what is the secret ingredient?
  20. i found that blog last week, interesting stats. 2,000 applicants is crazy, does anyone have the total applicant number for any of the other schools?
  21. any feedback from the people that went to the interview weekend?
  22. Short answer: whatever school gives the best financial aid package. I didn't apply to any school I wouldn't be happy to go to. Long Answer: my wife has also been accepted to Ph.D. in Education programs in both geographic areas, so we will need to sit down with all of our acceptances and make a family decision. of course, a full-tuition scholarship at Georgetown is basically impossible to turn down, but that ain't happening.
  23. if you are going to wear just slacks and a dress shirt you might as well wear a sport coat too. you will look more mature without being any more dressed up, and gives you more flexibility if you want to take it off.
  24. Yep, US Foreign policy. I was lucky enough to meet with a couple of grads from the program and they suggested that tract over peace/conflict resolution. I was obviously a bit hopeful about the site being down, so sick of this process.
