Huh. For some reason I always thought of you as a guy.
-
Interestingly, I've always seen antecedent as a girl. Hmmmm

Not at all! I'd be over the moon. *Sigh, I knew it was a longshot, anyway.

Congratulations, Jbarks! See, it works out! And it looks like you still have plenty of programs left to hear from! -
YOU JERK. Just kidding. I was freaking out a bit, though. Ugh. I don't even really care that much if I get in at this point, but I just want to know and be done, so I can get on with the business of making my decisions! ...okay, maybe I care a little. Or more than a little.

Yes, I was told earlier this week that final admissions decisions had not yet been made and would be done no later than the first week of March. So there's definitely still hope! -

It could always be that those people were contacted early because of special fellowships. That's happened for me for two of the three programs I've been accepted to, so I think it's fairly common practice. It's too bad the posts on the board don't specify, but it's quite likely. Also, as far as I know Apply Yourself doesn't update without an e-mail notification...at least that's how it's been for the other two schools that used it.

I haven't heard anything, either, though I applied to the M.A., not the Ph.D. Also, Jbarks, don't count yourself out yet for IU. As far as I'm aware, they haven't yet made their final admit decisions. Keep up the hope!

My school doesn't have a creative writing major, but I'm currently in my fifth creative writing class. I had my final essay due yesterday, and I had to ask my professor for an extension. All of a sudden, I don't want to write anymore. This is the first term during my undergrad career that I haven't been in an English lit class, and I feel empty inside. As in, so empty that I can't even write this essay that's now due tomorrow. Blah. -

I'm in a similar but opposite boat. Unless I choose to go to IU, I'm going from having had 22 years of snowy, cold winters to warmer climates. Strange. Luckily, my mom is obsessed with road trips, and is already planning for a cross-country drive this summer. This means I get to keep my books. Oh, thank goodness. Hopefully I can afford an apartment large enough to hold them... -
That sounds about right. When I talked to Professor Thrailkill, she said that they were aiming for a cohort of 12. Are the acceptees here going to the visit weekend? I haven't gotten official details about it yet, but I'm really interested in the program and am definitely planning on going!

I believe that they typically accept on a somewhat rolling basis (in other words, it's not over 'til it's over). I'm one of the admits this year, but I'm still waiting on official information from the GSAS. So, it sounds like it's likely not over yet!

Post-Acceptance Stress & Misc. Banter
bdon19 replied to TripWillis's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I did this. Now I can't focus on anything because all I want to do every minute of everyday is research about the programs. The rejections I've gotten since then have been marginally difficult, but then I just keep reminding myself that the decision's going to be that much harder if I have more than three to choose from. And hazelbite, I still have impostor feelings. I feel like someone didn't read my SOP right or something. Or was deluded into thinking that my research is actually important in some way. -
Yes, Trip, you should have! Then we could go to UNC together! (Not that I've decided or anything, but...I really, really like UNC right now...)
-
Obviously Princeton misplaced my phone number, and they're desperately trying to find it before leaving the office for the day.
-
I'm just waiting. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
-
Two acceptances up on the board. I'm gonna be checking my phone obsessively all day. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

This. My first one was like, "OMG guys, I have a future!" The second was, "Wow, someone thinks I'm good enough to come straight from undergrad and do this shit for realz." And the third was like, "Whoa. You like me? You really, really like me? I guess I did do something right, after all. Huh." Such a weird process. Such weird emotions. -
Did you call them? I still haven't heard a word, which I'm sure means I'm out, at this point.

The earrings? Yes, they really exist. I can't currently find any, but this is from the same seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JONATHAN-SWIFT-art-PENDANT-BROOCH-Pin-/330690601105?pt=Handcrafted_Artisan_Jewelry&hash=item4cfeb22091 I went through a phase my sophomore year when I bought a ton of literary jewelry... Yeah. Sometimes I wonder how I got into grad school... -

Yeah, I bought small thank you gifts post-winter break for writing letters. For two of them I just bought kitschy literary-themed calendars. For the third I bought a "Choose Your Own Jane Austen Adventure" book and a pair of Jonathan Swift earrings (to match my own pair). Yeah, I'm that girl. -

All you Chapel Hill folk should PM me and tell me about it. (Okay, really I should PM you and ask about it, but that's too much effort right now... ). I'm really seriously considering the program there! Anyone else feeling the "OMG I really want to go to School X!!!! I'm gonna find everything out about town X! ...Oh, shit, I forgot about School Y's library... And School Z's kick-ass faculty in this area." GAHHHHHHH so frustrating! -

THIS. Damn you, UT!!!! I really don't think I'll be prepared to make my final decision until after I've visited and talked to people there. Grrrrr. It's frustrating. -
Trip (and anyone else waitlisted), has your status on the website changed yet? Mine just says "No Decision." Why can't these programs just reject me already?? I just want closure!
