  1. Same sentiments. I accepted a PhD offer from JHU last month. Then I was awarded an Erasmus Mundus Masters scholarship (where I'll study in three different countries- France, Italy and Poland). It has always been my dream to go to Europe and I have a gut feeling that I'll be happier, there but logic says that I should do the PhD. Then again, I can't really decline JHU after accepting their offer; that would create a bad impression on me.

  2. So where are you going this Fall? Also, which offers have you declined so far? (This is for those who are waitlisted in some schools)

    I'll start:

I finally decided to attend Johns Hopkins for Bioinorganic Chem. So far, I've declined the offer from Tufts and U Florida.

**Side question: Is there really such a thing as a wait-list in Chem? I talked to a POI and she said that they make 40-50 offers annually but only ~15 enroll to the program. I guess it all depends on the school reputation.

  3. This is in Germany. Apparently, my undergrad degree (I'm an international student) is not eligible for graduate studies. I lack 1-2 years of study or something. It was an error on their part; they shouldn't have accepted me and given me a scholarship if I wasn't eligible in the first place! And they only realized it 2 weeks before the start of classes. I have to tell you, the worst part is the unpacking of my bags. :(

  4. The scenario you are talking about actually happened to me last year. 2 weeks before my flight, the graduate coordinator told me that they are retracting my admission and scholarship. It put me in a shock for weeks but I think things happen for a reason. Now I got accepted in a MUCH MUCH better school so it's all good.

But then again, I'm also becoming paranoid that this opportunity will slip away from my hands again.
