  1. Haha, if you're referring to the CLAGS conference, this one is different. Both = purdy cool.
  2. Huh, I just realized that a good friend of mine is presenting at this thing! Now I'm definitely going. They have him listed as CUNY Grad Center, which is weird... absolutely no respect for Brooklyn College. For shame.
  3. To paraphrase Eliot, April is the best fucking month ever (at least I think that's how it goes, right?).
  4. That looks like a pretty hip conference. I'm not presenting, but I'll probably attend.
  5. Yah. Seriously. Seriously seriously. And, with any luck, I will be participating from the inside... if they'll have me. I'm definitely gonna propose something at the very least, and volunteer regardless. Edit: How on Earth did they get Jasbir Puar and Judith Butler AND Rabih Almmedine as keynotes? That's many keynotes... many.
  6. Thanks, TE. You're gonna rock it next year. Let me know if you'd like a peer reader when it comes to it. I can't promise I won't be knee-deep in coursework 'round then, but I'll do my best. If you're ever in NYC, look me up. And so much super stress to still look forward to in the next half-decade (3/4 decade... decade?)! But, for now, let's just revel in the awesomeness of this. I feel a million times better than I did on 11/23 right after I submitted all my apps. We do deserve all of the drinks. Amen. You're on.
  7.   Oh man, this. Now I can get back to reading things for class!
  8. I love our lives right now.
  9. Fuck all these fuckers who are not accepting lolopixie. Just sayin'.
  10. Thanks, arrivé. Remember the consortium! You're welcome on my turf if I'm welcome on yours; I hear Columbia is a purdy darn good school too.
  11. Uber jealous of both of you. Y'all deserve it.
  12. Man, UT Austin was like the get in off the waitlist school this year. Too awesome.
  13. Um, by the way, how awesome is CLAGS??? Look at this ridiculously awesome conference! http://web.gc.cuny.edu/clags/pages/homo_cfp.html
  14. Jealous. Such an awesome program. Tell Timothy Morton I said hi.
  15. I do. Goodbye to those horrible days!
  16. Yes, indeed! We could've made other options work, but this was the ideal one for a healthy relationship; we've been living together for 2.5 years now and having to live apart would've been sort of a shitty step backward. I feel for anyone who has to deal with that; considering how crazy this process is, I can't believe how fortunate I was to get into an awesome program in such a convenient location. Now I don't have to worry again until the job search.
  17. Haha, I have WAY too many interests, but it's sort of consolidating to Queer Black Studies/Lit slowly. Did you apply to Davis? I applied there, but I think I'm out of my depth these days when it comes to lit and the environment. It's been a while now since I've done something pertaining to that field. Still, maybe I'll see you at an ASLE function! Likewise, buddy. Let me know if you take a course at the GC; I'd be happy to give advice.
  18. Okay, everyone, so what's the deal? Incoming cohort drinks? What classes y'all taking? I might blow my mind with a theory triple play, but also wonder if I shouldn't try to branch out of my field as much as possible in the first year... sooooo many questions. I'm sure you all feel the same way.
  19. Boom, indeed; the hammer has been thrown down! Thanks, ComeBackZinc. I did indeed; two people short of glory, but you know what? It is all. good. Now that I'm decided, I'm ecstatic to get started at CUNY.
  20. The Graduate Center, City University of New York, PhD in English. Sub-field(s): African-American Literature, Queer Studies, 20th Century, and Literature and the Environment. <----- Sunglasses to hide joyous tears, crazy excitement, and thrill of finally being finished with this process. See you all on the job search in 5-7 years!
  21. Why on earth is it called the "Hot Metal Bridge" program? I mean, I think "Bridge" makes sense to me... this sort of sounds like an 80s band.
  22. AA -- when I was visiting, Wanda Bak e-mailed me a link to the listserv for graduate apartment hunting and what not. I think a lot of students choose to live in Northampton, which I assume is less expensive and more interesting than Amherst, but you could probably also live in Amherst. Stuff tends to be pretty accessible by PVT buses, in my estimation, and it seems to run really regularly. There are also bike lanes and other hippie perks. If you have a car, more power to ya. I'd e-mail Wanda and ask her. Couldn't hurt.
  23. Thanks, but I really need to stfu considering how great my "backup" is. There's lots of people who don't even have offers, so...
  24. Just found out I'm 2nd on the waitlist and it doesn't look so great for me. The word "unlikely" was used in my latest email update... Wow. Two people away from the dream program. What a shame.
  25. Oh, cultural (in)competence... have you ever seen the Native American episode of Roseanne? It's just as bad.
