SERIOUSLY. I mean, what the fuck? Three very good schools accepted me on the week of the 6th and got me thinking, "WOW, I am awesome and I'm going to get into Harvard!" Three implicit rejections later, and I'm totally reeling. It makes me feel like my first three made a huge mistake or something. -
Okay, who just posted that waitlist? Fess up.

If only I had written that book. I would've made it 50% gayer.

I know. I'm starting to feel like I got rejected from Brown, and I didn't even apply there!

That is true. I think the most obnoxious part of last Spring was trying to write three term papers while mixing, mastering, designing the artwork, making the website, doing a bunch of shitty promo art, making a press kit, making a few music/promo vids, handling the artwork order, and submitting CDs/sending e-mails to over 200 press contacts. All for a GbV rip-off shit-fi album. -

Oh, we're plugging our bands now? Okay: ANTIQUES You can see some really great google translates I did of our album reviews there. BTW, user name, do you ever find that also having to work on band stuff is an ENORMOUS drain on scholarly time? -
Thanks rainyday! After I found out, I looked up the NRC statistics on the percentage of students that CUNY English funds, and it's 38.2%. So you are definitely right. I'm definitely going to go up to check out UMass, although CUNY is currently my top choice. Would be super cool to be classmates. Amherst is such a literary town. And I am very Western Mass. I have the Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and Sonic Youth albums to prove it.

Don't be too sure about that. An 0-6 got into Columbia today. -

If I got into either, the sheer contrast of application outcome with the very existence of this thread (courtesy of moi) would cause a tear in the space/time fabric. I'll be pulling for you to get into Princeton and Cornell too. Look at it this way; if we get into any of those schools, we'll be gifting our acceptances to waitlisters. Wow, that just made me feel a whole lot better... -
$27,000/yr won't get you a penthouse in NYC, but you will be more than fine. Live in Brooklyn -- it's a wonderful borough. CUNY gave me $18,000 (although, with summer employment, I really should think of it as more like 22).

So, you agree that I am right? The numbers in the number... seemed very Harvard-ish... if you ask me. -

I feel really guilty for wanting to get into more programs when other people are still 0-for. Still, Harvard or Yale would be incredible. -

This. It was probably also the fact I stopped waiting tables and started hanging out in the library for 8 hours a day 1.5 years ago. -
Thanks. That means a lot coming from a future Columbia PhD.

Hmm. I'm not sure. None of the people in the american studies thread/forum think notifications are coming out until this week, one being a Yale student citing an inside source. There are also no acceptances, rejections, or waitlists posted on the results board. I think I'm going to just maintain a sunny outlook. But thanks anyway. Are you sure it wasn't American History? I saw those go out. -

Oh, and another thing from the world of weird coincidences. So I got this text friday or saturday night from a Boston number telling me that they'd "be at Reservoir soon," which I assume means Reservoir on the green line. Since I am grasping for any sign that I'd get into BU, Harvard, and Tufts, my brain has deduced that the person was: 1) In Harvard/Tufts/BU GSAS and responsible for calling me. 2) Got my number mixed up with someone else's. 3) And shortly thereafter arrived at Reservoir. SO yeah. -

All the accepted people in the Columbia thread are giving me three feelings: 1) Hopefulness -- it is totally possible to get into an Ivy. 2) The strong desire to get into Harvard or Yale this week. REALLY strong desire. It's irrational, I know. Ivy League never tells the whole story or determines quality definitively. I think it's the fact that I come from such a poor family and went to such lowly state schools. I just want it to happen really badly. 3) Happiness for gradcafe people who make it. -
Arrivant -- you should change your handle to arrivé.

Wow, arrivant. Way to go!

I just got a call from an unrecognized number... It was a fucking census worker. I wanted to scream my head off at her. Instead I politely answered her questions. -
