The sheer amount of rejections on the results board is kind of incredible. How many people applied here??

Looks like they sent out acceptances for the Master's program. Congrats to all those people! I wonder when we can expect PhD notifications? It seems like, historically, they are one of the latest schools, often coming out in late Feb/early March. Don't have my heart set on here (not the best fit), but the funding is good and the cohort is pretty small. Those are perks. And it's in Boston.

I'm going to wear a nametag that says "Trip Willis" on it.

Wow, congrats!! Another testament to the "all about fit, WS, and SoP" argument. Love it.

UMASS - Amherst

Sorry to hear that, Timshel. There goes our chance to be classmates. At least you have that awesome UCR acceptance to keep you warm!! I guess this again shows how the process is not about quality of school v. quality of student; I probably wouldn't have gotten into UCR. -
I'm gonna back up everyone else on here and say that I find the forum pleasantly unpretentious. Except for that debate about the state of literary study and humanities overall in the "Books NOT to Read Thread."

Ugh I totally understand how you're feeling. After going 3/3 to start, I'm apparently 0/3 in the last 3 (rejection Davis; implicit rejection from Rutgers and Maryland). Some schools think I'm awesome and others not so much. Weird feeling.

I just saw another acceptance go up. Congrats! Nice to see it's not totally over yet...

I'm starting to get nervous about Yale... think they'll come out this week?
-
Great in 127 Hours and Milk; terrible in all other aspects of humandom. Did you hear about how an NYU professor got fired for failing him?
-
I think I'm ready to call this implicit rejection. Wah wah.
-
I know what you mean. All my real longshots are what I have out at this point. Except for Tufts; I think I'm in the hunt for an acceptance or waitlist there since they have sent out so many rejections already... and weirdly... I think Yale is my second best chance of getting in. I have no idea why, just this feeling.

I am staring at my inbox with total contempt right now.

WOW! Congrats, that's a great accomplishment, SP! As of now, are you thinking Amherst or hold out for Maryland?? That's a toughie. And you obviously still have some other irons in the fire! Okay, Sangeeta. Get at me now. I'm ready.

Oh God, don't even get me started. NO ONE in the general populus realizes that CUNY even HAS a Graduate Center. So when I say I got into CUNY, they look at me like I'm going into continuing ed to become a janitor's assistant. Kill me. -

Yes, good analogy. We have all essentially applied to ten ivy-league undergrads, statistically speaking. People need to respect. What. -

Okay, so you know how we were talking about how our family and friends always say something like, "Oh, well I'm SURE you'll get in. You love to read and you're a great student! I don't know why you're so worried!"? You know, because they have no idea about the whole 300 apps for 10 funded spots deal, split up further by subfocus? I wanted to let everyone know that once you do actually get in, none of them appreciate what a feat it is. "Oh, well we're not surprised! Congratulations! Is that a good school?" ARGH. It doesn't matter if it's a good school! I got in! Stop it, Dad! Just because the only good school you've ever heard of is Oxford doesn't give you the right to downplay my accomplishments! I HATE YOU. I'M GOING TO MY ROOM TO LISTEN TO LINKIN PARK AND I'M NEVER SPEAKING TO YOU AGAIN. THEN I AM GOING TO ORANGE JULIUS AND HOT TOPIC TO HANG OUT WITH MY FRIENDZ!! whoa what happened? Sudden flashback. -

Which is sad, since we're not much of a threat to any of the hegemonic powers. -
Le sigh indeed. Would've been a trip (...willis...and bdon)! We could still hope for waitlists at this point, and then both get in off the waitlist!

It's looking like the Grad Center at this point and I can't tell you how thrilling that would be. It's a dream program for my interests. -

I almost applied to UNC -- would've been another case of great fit, but alas, I had too many top-tiers. CONGRATS!! It's such an awesome school. You have freaking amazing choices now. -
So I would like my waitlist e-mail now Sangeeta Ray please and thank you
-
Yeah, this really can't be emphasized enough. Sometimes I think the only way I got a funded offer from the GC is how closely my work links up with some of the professors there. It really makes me wish I had applied to Northwestern in hindsight, because that would've been another great fit. I took it off the board because I had too many top tier schools... blah.
