I got into Rutgers, and at the moment, am going. But I am a nervous wreck. Terrified. $36,000 for two semesters. I'm panicked. That's unreal. That won't even be the whole degree. My parents are excited, and are spreading the news around to everyone. My sister is planning a visit. The only person not excited is me. I think I bit of more then I can chew. I applied only to high priced, out of state schools. I ignored a safer, cheaper option (Southern Connecticut) I wanted to go to a "name" school. But I don't think it matters in MLIS. I want to withdraw, I really do. And reapply to URI and SCSU. I can pay instate in CT (Mass residents can for MLIS) and less then out of state for URI for Spring '13 I don't know what to tell my parents. I'm afraid.

Bump............. I am gong to Rutgers in the fall, and will be living on Campus. Is this doable without a car? Would I be stuck unable to get groceries or go anywhere on the weekends? I see that Ford Hall is on College Ave...........but it's a dorm. Really don't want to live in a dorm if I don't have to. Would getting from Busch Campus to College ave everyday be a pain? Is there anything near Busch campus in regards to a bank, grocery store, pharmacy? During my undergrad I was stuck in residential suburban hell without a car, and hope to not repeat the experience.

Don't feel bad, I'm in the similar situation, though not married. I work *very* part time, despite having been applying for over a year. (history BA as well) It's hard to find work around here, and being autistic doesn't help either.

I'm fine with getting into debt for tuition, If i can get enough work to pay for housing and my $30 a week I need to eat I'll be fine.

I have the same problem. But don't forget work study and getting aid your second semester or second year.

I strongly prefer full accreditation, But if Buffalo somehow gives me a bunch of money, I'd have to consider it.

I'd actually enjoy relocating I need a change of scenery, at least for a while. I love my part of the world, and would like to maybe come back someday, but 23 years so far is enough for now. And I've never been to NYC, which Rutgers offers the opportunity to do. I'm gonna see about maybe a few IT certifications, I went to a vocational high school and did IT, but never took the certification tests. I think with a little study I could get an A+ cert at least. I W3 offers certs in HTML etc, and I'm gonna do some research into whether those are worth anything or not. I'm definitely going to try to find any kind of work-study I can at Rutgers, also any sort of volunteering/internship I can find in some sort of library while I'm there.

My undergrad degree seems relatively worthless (History and Geography) But I am lucky to have no debt from it (in state, work, grandparents) I live in a relatively rural area so work hasn't been easy. The only work I've gotten is minimum wage. I'm willing to work myself senseless to get a job with a MLIS. I am very good with computers, so am hoping that might give me a leg up (I take to HTML etc pretty easily) I am trying to teach myself Spanish as well. I'm volunteering now at my town library, which I enjoy. Relocating is not a problem. I don't need a great career at a top notch job. I'd be fine with a job that allows me to live modestly and do something fulfilling. I love the environment of the community college/ state college and would be fine working at a place like that. I'm cursed with not being a hard science person. I wish I was, I'm just not. Math either. I suppose those fields are "worth" going into debt over. But they aren't for me.

Sure, that'd be great thanks! I mean, it's a big difference in money. I'm no stranger to having to work my behind off in school.

I am likely going to attend Rutgers, If I did 15 credits a semester, I could finish in a year+a summer. Has anyone done this? I know 15 graduate credits is no where near the same as 15 undergrad credits (I usually did 18) but is it possible? If it saved me another semester worth of costs I'd consider it.

I applied to Simmons. Its my last choice as I'd commute. (Half the point of this was to go somewhere else and meet people get connections etc.) I've been wait listed for Seattle. I didn't apply for the online. (Don't care for online classes). Simmons has very few scholarships/fellowships (doesn't it seem like every MLS program?) and I've applied for them but am not thinking I'll get them. Without them I probably can't afford it. Simmons is very pricey, and it's an expensive city.

I've been accepted to one school so far, Rutgers. It's out of state and I'd have to pay $22,000+ a year just for tuition. That doesn't include housing, or fees, books................I'm so nervous about taking on that much debt. (my other option Buffalo, if I get in is cheaper) I had no news about any sort of funding at all, so I assume it is all going to be loans. (work study perhaps? Hopefully?) Please reassure me that this is worth it. I haven't been able to find steady work after my undergrad, and I can't imagine what this would be like with 30K+ of debt on my back.

I was really looking forward to possibly going to UBC................but oh well. That's life. The best you can do is make them regret they didn't take you right?

So another town impossible to see without a car? I was stuck with no life in suburbia in undergrad, hoping I'm not for grad school.

I applied a little late for Buffalo, took a while for some of my materials. So I'm not worried.

Don't count it out. You can hear about aid later, or apply for your second/third semesters.

Got accepted to Rutgers!!! Does anyone know whether they would have sent funding info (if any) with the acceptance letter?
