Hi folks, I've been a user of ~~academic twitter~~ for a bit but I found myself wanting to ask questions without my name attached. After talking to other grad students I realized this was a pretty common need, so I've been working on a project where you can submit your questions anonymously on twitter and get answers from academic twitter! I hope it turns into a resource on everything from department politics to personal to publishing questions for folks in grad school. Please follow and share if so inclined :) Hope this post is ok and helps some folks!

I just went digging through the results for NDSEG, and it looks like the award time is a good deal more variable than for NSF. Last year, the majority of awards went out April 3rd (which was a Wednesday), so we may be hearing as soon as next week. The year before, the awards seemed to be erratically placed between mid April and as late as August 1 (??).

Anyway best of luck to everyone! And don't get your hopes up if you're waitlisted (which from last year looks like happens to a SHITLOAD of people)... better to assume it means rejected and have a pleasant surprise to find out you got it later than be destroyed again.

yep! for one of my review sheets from last year, I'm not sure if he even read my proposal/CV/etc. He commented that I have no publications (false) and that all my research experience is in neuro (3/4 of my past labs have not been in neuroscience), etc.

I can't fathom how confusing it would be to be an applicant from Bradley Bond's lab right about now

No, which is why I haven't offered any wild speculations, but I am happy to sit back and debunk stupid ideas.

Actually, hate to tell you this, but I called NSF and they said that anyone mistakeningly told that they were accepted was actually meant to be told they were DQed, in advance of the accept/HM/deny notifications coming out soon. Sorry. I'll expect you'll be receiving a phone call about it shortly.

Yeah. People. Chill. And as an to alternative to getting in a tizzy when Fastlane goes down tomorrow (I'm betting winners are announced Friday morning), may I suggest a relaxing evening of the drink of your choice (be it scotch, whiskey, wine, beer, etc.) while you're obsessively checking this forum? Worst case scenario: you get denied any form of congratulations from the GRFP, but at least you spend the night with cool internet buds while forgetting about all your past/present/future sorrows. And after all... who gets work done on Friday?  

Meh.  It's pretty pathetic to get all worked up about it, too, though.

I don't understand how that is entertainment for others though. Seems to me only a sad and pathetic person would see that as entertaining.
