don't know why you got a negative 1 for saying something nice, but I did notice that negative 1 turned into a plus 4!!

I think your idea and rationale makes a lot of sense...I'll reconfigure the list like you suggested and give it a shot as a post

Hey guys, I posted the admission list on a separate thread- surreptitiously titled "2012 History Admission Thread," so if you want to know exactly who has been admitted where, just access that list for a quick reference. Like I said in that thread, I hope everyone here is on that list before two long.

Here is a running list of all the schools history applicants have been admitted to for fall of 2012. Please self-update/correct the list as needed by copying and pasting the list to a new post. Congrats to all of the admits!! The idea behind this thread is to provide a clearinghouse of information as to who is accepted where, so that we can more efficiently seek out those with similar issues/concerns/questions, as well as knowing who to ask if they are planning on accepting their offer to a school we have been wait-listed on (as well as whatever other uses you may have for it). Copy the screen name, paste into the search bar at the top-right part of this page and choose "member" to pm any member you want to get in touch with. I hope all of us make it onto this list before the end of this process. My apologies for any errors and omissions and I hope this is useful to the community! h'-n-p' Astarabadi: UC- Berkeley Attia: UW- Madison CPetersen: UC- Berkeley, USC cupoftea_andasitdown: UNC- Chapel Hill, Virginia emerald54: UW- Madison, UT- Austin Ganymede18 (partner): Brown, Northwestern Gene Parmesan: Illinois (History), Kansas (AMST), Purdue (AMST) genesisy: Northwestern (History), UC Davis (Cultural Studies), UC Irvine (Culture & Theory) goldielocks: Northwestern, SUNY-Buffalo hopin’-n-prayin’: UW- Madison iamincontrolhere-haig: Ohio State Kelkel: Miami U. i see...I have been reading this thread through a "what pertains to me and my situation" filter the past few days...my bad
-
On the bright side, my conditional acceptance has bee rubber-stamped to an actual acceptance- so that deserves a big fat yaaay!

SL, certainly your experience is relevant in the general sense (and greatly appreciated, btw...), but the reason for the frantic angst after seeing TMP's post is that UW-M is one of the few schools that openly warns applicants not to expect all new students to be awarded funding...certainly not full funding...with us UWs admitees (which right now is my only option as I have not heard from any other school- save Yale's assumed passive-rejection due to not receiving an interview) this becomes almost another accept/reject proposition...
-
one last thing tmp... please pardon me: CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! you are a huge inspiration to all of us on this board as to what persistence and perserverance deliver!!
-
ok now we're getting somewhere. Do me (and emerald54) a quick favor- when you hit the "enter" link on your Grad App. Status result online at mywisc does it say: Congratulations! You have been admitted to the Graduate School at UW-Madison! Please keep current with enrollment and important campus information through the links below. For purposes of tuition, you are classified as a Non-Resident for Wisconsin. If you have questions regarding this decision, please contact the residency office. or does it say something more specific/promising about receiving funding?
-
I really hate am annoyed at the 23 people who have emailed me today who are neither adcomms nor UW funding comms
-
yes, i am frantic right now to find out (which I confess with a mixture of honesty and shame) does yours say you classified as out of state?
-
Please TMP...Please!!!! ...ok..I mean when you have a moment
-
My UW page now says officially admitted, but I do not see funding info...???!!!
-
TMP...how did you find out about funding???
-
Shout out to tmp (THE...OSU!) and KelKel (who cares about the funding at UT-D, Miami-O is an original 'public Ivy'!) I already had to update my list for you guys!
-
I wish those were my odds at gettin' in to those schools...
-
Welcome back phillyphan! ...just the other day, I was wondering happened to you/envying your ability to stay away... ps: sorry about Duke
-
Lol... it would simply list user names and schools accepted to. For instance Goldielocks: SUNY-Buffalo, Northwestern Kelkel: Miami U. (MA) Pugsley87: Johns Hopkins ticklemepink: Wisconsin- Madison then you can simply copy and paste the user name into the search bar and message away...

I have an idea that I want to run by the group. I am considering creating a new thread which lists by screen name, all of the schools we have been admitted to. Not schools applied to, rejected by or waitlisted by; only schools with acceptances. There are 2 main reasons I think a 'clearinghouse' thread for this info would be helpful. First, as the season presses on, and potential cohorts start to take shape, it would make it much easier for us to get into direct contact with other by referencing that list and then sending a pm than by casting a line on this thread. When I finally have a clearer idea of what my choices are (I hope I have choices anyway) or where I am actually going, I will want to touch base with others regarding subfields, sharing info on housing, seeing who is going to open house etc... Secondly, those of us that do get waitlisted from preferred schools will now be able to go to this thread and pm admitees (especially those that also show acceptances from other schools) regarding thier intentions about the waitlisted school... I think this would be very helpful. I will construct the original list (it will take me a few days to go back to mid-January, of course) and people can self-update it as they get new good news. I have no desire to be the thread police, but it would work best if there was little or no chit-chat on that thread, so that anyone needing to refer to or update the list can simply view the most recent post... Any thoughts- if no one thinks it would be helpful, I will simply spend that time perpetually refreshing my inbox (very happily and neurotically). If there are objections, of course, I'd be interested in hearing them too!

Holy Black Monday- Would have loved to applied to Duke, but there was no match with the faculty- looks I saved a few bucks on that one... sorry for the bad news all...
-
Not me...I'm too stoked (even though UW-M is near the bottom of my list of where I would go if I had to choose between all of my schools)... my Dept. doesn't send its MAs to big time programs too often, so I think sharing this will give all of my professors and advisors a nice vicarious sense of accomplishment (is that jut my super-sized ego and need for validation hiding behind a veil of altruism???)
-
the level of identification I have with all of you is frightening...and comforting! hang in there crazed!! it will happen!!
-
My Wisconcin portal says: "Your program has recommended you for admission." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, huge relief, much happiness, cant wait to hear about funding etc... sorry, just a little too geeked up to write anything profound- will check back in later- now I gotta go explain to my wife how Madison, WI is a lot like New Jersey, where she grew up and was hoping to move back to!!!

As things are clearly heating up heading into next week, I offer sincere congrats to those who have been blessed with good news, sincere sympathies to those beset with bad news, and sincere hope for all of us on the remainder of our apps... If I am right, no one on this board is out of the game yet, right?? And for those who have agonized at the silence and hope-and-despair of hearing nothing, join me as we sing with John,Paul, George and Ringo: "Still my inbox gently sleeps." Perhaps, we can all take comfort in the fact that none on this board will ever script the e-mail I just received from one of my students who felt compelled to advise me: "regarding the paper we have to due, I have know idea what to write about..."

Ok my fellow would-be UW Badgers- as of 10:54 am, the My UW portal still shows 'pending' for the apps... A couple of reasons for optimist for UW results for all of us- 1. No one has gotten the heads up emails, so we are still in the running in equal footing, and 2. They traditionally take a very large cohort- 50 to 60 students accepted per year the last several years... I am...Hopin'-n-Prayin'...for all us...
