For Penn's 2 year MSW program I was awarded $10k for Dean's Merit Award and $2k for SP2 Award = $12k total. This sounds pretty standard right? It's still a small amount relative to the total cost of both years which is around 80k, right? Any thoughts or advice on this? Thanks in advance!

2011 MSW Hopeful, where did you get your statistics about Penn and their acceptance rates? I just spoke to a Penn MSW representative and they said they get over 700 applicants and only accept 100 to 120 students. -

That is hilarious! Thanks for sharing espresso_eyes, this totally made my day! -
Good point socialworkphd. I take it from your username you are in a social work PhD program? If so, where, what year are you in, concentration, and how do you like it?

Thanks! Yeah my GRE scores were okay, but we don't need them for the MSW? I applied to Berkeley's MSW/PhD program so for that I needed to take the GRE's but none of the other schools required it. I want to get the stipends also, do you know if they are competitive? I applied to three out of state schools and I don't think any of them have the stipends like they do in California

Fingers crossed!

Same here Rivka - I submitted it on 12/31 but THEY couldn't find my transcript so it says "application status completed 1/19," and I haven't heard anything so I'm feeling the same way. Well, you do have Penn

Wow! Congratulations!!! WUSTL and Columbia are really great schools. I submitted my Columbia application on December 31st and went into my account and it just says that my application has been submitted I hope this doesn't mean I didn't get in

Thanks KMSW, I'll be submitting my FAFSA sometime this week!

No, I have not done my FAFSA. I'm waiting on my parents to get their W2 Forms. Do you know if certain schools what you to have your FAFSA done by a certain time?

CSULA does have rolling admissions, however from what I hear their program is rather competitive - over a thousand apply and only 125 get accepted. They have rolling admissions on an "available space basis" meaning those who turn in their application after December 15 are competing for whatever spots are left. I know Hunter is due February 5 and I'm currently working on my NYU's application which is due February 6. Also, I believe USC also has rolling admissions, so you should definitely give them a shot. Good luck!

Thanks KMSW - I hope we all get into our choices also! Is UCLA your top choice?
-
Thanks Keeganh - If I hear from any of the Cal State Schools I'll be sure to let you know. KMSW - I applied to CSULA on the Dec. 15th priority deadline so I'm glad to hear that I'll hear a response by late March/early April. Yeah, I heard that CSULB gets tons and tons of applications. For CSULA, I went to their informational meeting and they said they accept only 100 - 125. Which is pretty exclusive because when I did my UPenn interview they said they were very exclusive and accept only 125 each year. I know of folks that I work with who applied to CSULA and didn't get in. I didn't realize how exclusive CSULA is.

Wow, I didn't know the Cal State's conduct interviews! That's great to hear, hopefully I get an interview. My boyfriend's job moved him to Westlake so now I'm thinking of applying to CSUN. Does anyone know if they have rolling admissions?

I applied to the MSW program at Cal State Long Beach and Cal State LA around mid December 2011 and haven't heard anything. I know they usually get TONS of applications, but does anyone have any idea when they'll make decisions? I've heard March/April? The wait is killing me!!!

I submitted my Berkeley application December 5th and never got a confirmation e-mail also. However, I can log into my completed application and it says that all my documents have been submitted, so I'm guess that this serves as a confirmation also (as Rivka mentioned above). I heard that decisions don't come out until March and April Good luck! Rivka, did you have your interview with UPenn yet?
-
I applied to Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Los Angeles mid December 2011 and have not heard back from either also. I heard from others that we should hear back by March or April? Are you checking your status online?

Thanks so much for your advice. I really appreciate it. I noticed that your profile reads: Columbia and University of South Carolina and USC - did you apply to Columbia and USC? Any advice because I plan on applying to both. Thanks!

I'd like to hear the responses to this as well. I too am applying for an MSW for Fall 2012 and have the same questions. I know for the joint MSW/PhD application for Berkeley I basically talked about my research experience. I was told PhD statements should be all about research, research, research. However, there are a couple of other programs that I am interested in that are solely MSW. I want to and will mention my research in these applications, but should I put an emphasis on something else and have research take a back seat? For example: clinical experience, interactions with clients, field work? I also have a question about the anecdote aspect of a personal statement. As ohme_ohmy stated above, is this too cliche nowadays? Should I just get right to the point? For the MSW/PhD Berkeley application I just did, I first had an anecdote and then decided to take it out. Any help will do and thanks in advance!
