I thought it would be a great idea to actually post who people we would like to thank, and why.... you could rate it by categories if you want, i.e. VIP, IP, P I start by saying: my mother - she was always there for me, no words were needed (on my part lol), but she was always there for me my physics prof - in 2009, he must have sent out 20+ LORs for me. i love him (pity we are too much men, to actually talk about our feelings lol) a prof i only met online - he was very helpful in my past research, and actually sent out LORs last year and this year, to some of the programs i applied to my gf - i dont know exactly what she did, but im smart enough to realize im supposed to thank her lol. she was there for me VIP = in this case, they are all VIPs

one of my schools was thoughtful enough to think of considering me for a masters degree (they rejected me from the phd)...its the positive...only positive i've so far. I really do hope it pans out.

dude, i totally understand...i think i made a record in most number of internships/research assistantships/teaching assistantships in a three year span as an undergrad. one summer, i did two internships! i was NOT a geek; i was THE geek. now, i'm here hustling for grad skool admissions one would think all those lab work/research exp would count for something....sometimes, it pays to not love your field/research

well Eric1025, thanks for sharing. your story was literally epic. Its never over till the fat lady sings/all the chips are down...(basically: its not over till its over). i appreciate your signing up to post in this topic, it means a lot to me personally, that you took the time out just to share your story. but perhaps you should have read the title of the topic before posting lol...it says: 'who hasn't gotten accepted anywhere yet' not 'did you just get accepted' lmao...sorry i just had to say that, it was wayyy funny in my head. i really should write a script for a sitcom....but seriously though, your post cheered me up. every summer when i applied for internships, i only ever got accepted into one program (out of like 10-12), sometimes, it would be the last school that would say yes...but that was internship, this is grad school; wish my luck came back Note to self: apparently, rejections = depression => being delirious => saying and typing random irrelevant things

yeah...how do you bring that up in a conversation. 'I got rejected by all the grad schools I applied to'...that's not really a great conversation started; too depressing/sad i would say if the worst comes to worst...re-do the gre (aim 1450; your minimum score: ~1360, depending on your field). bt i dont wish that for you good luck, i really do hope it works out for you.

dude, i feel your pain all the word I have received so far hasn't been so good. the only relative good news is that after being rejected by a PhD program, I was asked if I 'would like to be considered for a Masters program.' Now someone on gradcafe said that in his department (slightly off from mine), that meant you were getting in. After emailing that I would like to be considered for the Masters program, I got an email saying: 'I will have your app reviewed by the ad comm.' Now, I'm scared...might even crap my pants and i applied to like 12 schools...no word from six yet, bad word from 5 and a half (lol)....why do they make us wait? lack of courtesy

true, but is it possible to find something for a year in your field...an internship...idk...a partnership/volunteer work teaching at a high school/part-time volunteer at a college...idk...anything that could make the app look better

I think you are the guy who posted elsewhere: 'misery loves company', and I replied something along the lines of 'yes it does, question is why are you in its company'....looking back it seems a lil mean...i was joking, i wasn't aware...sorry about that. I'm also down 5 (at least), so we are in the same boat...it sucks rite

totally shame on that school! If they are making mistakes with an accepted applicant's status update, imagine how they would fare with those unaccepted

you are right...let me rephrase it: The staff at my school are incompetent No offence (to them lol) , I actually think its cool and all having a system that you need connections to have your stuff sent out ASAP/on-time; but when it comes down to professionalism....I don't know if our staff can cut it. For the last year and a half or so, we have not had a register (in the registrar's office). The office was run by secretaries and a temp! That being said, I still love my school and the opportunities it provided me.
