  1. I'm still waiting for my letter
  2. Hmm this is odd. I'm located in Maryland and I still haven't gotten my letter yet... Are there any direct applicants from the US still waiting for the letter?
  3. Guess it will be Monday...
  4. The other piece I was thinking about was how relevant your topic or research has to be in terms of the six future challenge areas set forth by SSHRC?
  5. Any direct applicants from south of the border get their letters yet?
  6. I'm also anxiously waiting down here...checked my mail but no dice.
  7. I agree with you OverGrad. Frankly, conveying the results through snailmail seems such an old school method and I really don't get why they don't make use of an online portal. Plus, there is the possibility that these mails can get lost.
  8. Although I highly doubt it, has any direct applicants in the East Coast of US received their letters yet?
  9. Omg so nervous! I hope I get it on my first year...I can't imagine having to do this again!!
  10. Just out of curiosity, who are the people that will be evaluating the application in the "national competition?" I have been forwarded but I am wondering who the committee is made up of.
  11. Hey all. I'm studying at a U.S. school and mailed my direct application last week. First time applying, not really sure what to expect.
  12. Lol almost laughed when I heard full funding for BU's program. They don't fund you at all so you'll have to take out loans and go on debt.
  13. Can anybody claim the Boston College Counseling Psychology Ph.D. acceptance?
  14. I really don't get what you are asking here. Music therapy programs are usually Master's degrees because it is a practice-oriented profession. Furthermore, you lay out your interests then provide obstacles that will prevent you from pursuing them. You are going around in circles conjecturing yourself and I think this is a problem that lays in not knowing what your passion is. You are just skimming the surface in all 3 of your interests. You need to do more thinking about what it is that you are passionate and really interested about, not researching programs and trajectories that will some how "fit" your wavering interests.
  15. Are you talking about post-interview at these programs? If so, no it does not mean waitlist. A waitlist happens when they notify you that you are put on a waitlist. It does not mean anything but it could mean that they are still deciding about the final decision. It also could mean that you are rejected because many schools don't notify you of rejection until much later.
  16. You got it all wrong. Rankings don't mean jack when it comes to academic job market especially in psychology. Most important factor is your versatility and diligence as a researcher than it might be about the reputation of your mentor. And US News rankings? Are you kidding me?
  17. Never say yes to a program just because. You should also never say yes just because it is the only option you have (i.e. having only one acceptance). It is too big of a risk to take on a Ph.D. program when you are not completely happy or sure about your options. Ph.D. programs are a way of life and it would be foolish to just attend it thinking things will work out. It is not so bad to take another year to prepare again if you really want to test your full potential.
  18. Well it probably means bad news if you've already seen the interview invites. Most likely means you might be getting a rejection email or letter soon.
  19. Can the person who got the call from Boston college for counseling psychology phd share some info? E.g. Poi or dct,
  20. Ugh this waiting game is killing me! I need some answers!!
  21. Sounds like you answered your question. You have experience in both settings and interests in both research fields so it really depends how you tailor your application. In any case, if you apply to a school with a professor who aligns well with your research interest, that would be your best bet. Be careful about relating social work with clinical psych as although there are overlaps, differences separate them as a profession. Also, what do you mean by direct services? Did you do counseling?
  22. Success stories, sure, but why go chasing a blind dream if you don't know whether that's what you really want? You should not be asking about whether there are people out there who have overcome academic difficulties in being accepted to doctoral programs, you should be asking yourself if you are dedicated enough to enter this field for a long run. Everything starts with your interest in the field and how deep that interest is. There are many ways you can show this and like Lisa said, unfortunately, extracurriculars are not as relevant for your doctoral potential. I'm sorry to say but 6 months are not going to cut it let alone a year if you are looking to go into Ph.D. programs. Psy.D. programs have a more lax admissions requirements but they generally don't fund you, which is not ideal since you are looking for financial assistance. My advice would be for your to keep on amassing your research experience and build a portfolio that can distinguish yourself away from your GPA.
  23. Really depends on the school. I'd call the schools if you want to make sure that they are ok with receiving things shortly after the deadline. Sounds like either your letter writer is super busy or is very forgetful. If you are not seeing her again until the Apps close then you should definitely email her again especially if she has plans for the Thanksgiving weekend. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do and remember that this is an important first step of your career. Just be polite in the emails about it and that should be good.
  24. In relation to difficulty of getting apps complete in time before the deadline, I am having a hard time getting all my transcripts submitted on time. Some of the schools I'm applying to still haven't received/processed my transcripts that I sent about a month ago...They have been telling me that they have not received it and there is nothing that they can do. Some of these schools I already sent 2nd copies just in case and they haven't received those as well. I have checked and double checked the addresses and my electronic orders show the correct addresses. Worse yet, one school is telling me that all of my transcripts have not been received from all different school. This is just bizarre. Anyone having similar troubles?
  25. Are there any posts set up the contacts from the schools? e.g. interview invites, POI contacting, etc.
