  1. U Chicago Div emailed acceptances (at least to internal applicants) this afternoon. Full offer and information packet coming next week.
  2. Hi Laxman, I think I know who you are. Sorry about Duke. As for the results page Chicago spat, I just posted a result that as a student i know no offers have been made and I don't believe individual subject areas have even finalized their choices (there is a final meeting across subject areas to divvy up PhD slots between them that hasn't happened yet). Maybe an informal, personal email was sent to one person saying they were "likely to get in"... but I imagine since Bible is still interviewing that means another spot is viable or, more likely, nothing is decided yet. Rumors among the students are about another week before the real results will come forth (just rumors, could be more or less, take with much salt). When those do happen, expect a ton of results in all areas at once. Individual areas (e.g. Bible) don't get to notify before the whole divinity school.
  3. The only thing to be aware of is making the case that an MDiv with a largely Christian focus and curriculum is a good fit program for you. They'll want you--students with unique backgrounds are vital to a good academic environment, and U Chicago Div is trying hard to expand furthern into Islamic Studies--but don't let that distract the fact that you'll need to push a bit as to why as a Muslim you want to be at U Chicago for an MDiv. If you don't feel like you addressed that in your application, go ahead and call Ms. Lindner or Dean Owens at the Div School and have a conversation about that. If they know you're serious about the program fitting your goals, I can see no reason why they wouldn't fall over themselves to accept you.
  4. They are actively looking for faculty, and I think ASR is pretty high priority for a hire, but I also know they have left seats vacant for a long time in other areas of focus (e.g. there hasn't been a Byzantinist in history of christianity for years). But it was indicated that there would be some acceptances the next cycle in ASR. Also, new faculty could possibly diminish the advantage of in-house students. Best of luck!
  5. I'm the bearer of bad news, but don't shoot the messenger. Yes, Chicago Div. is incestuous (though I think that varies to a degree by area of interest). I don't think this is as big a deal as it is sometimes made out to be. But, lack of faculty in ASR at the moment means it is a virtual certainty that no applicants will be accepted to the PhD at all this year. Sorry, but I heard that from the Dean of Students' mouth.
  6. Thanks for correcting my info about GRE being the pivotal element, DivSkool!
  7. Yale accepted me for the MAR in History of Christianity with a BA in Art History (though I had some religious studies coursework on my transcript). So, personal statement trumps transcript in my experience. I know YDS has a concentration for the MAR in "Religion and the Arts" that, to my understanding, combines study in the Div School with further training in the relevant department of the university (e.g. literature, visual art). From your brief description of your interests, that seems your best fit.
  8. I'd echo PTS, though I hear you need to be prepared to have Barth kind of be the central locus of theological discussion. I can speak to U Chicago DIv as a student there. Our systematics is hurting after Kathryn Tanner's departure and no subsequent hire. On our faculty, Kevin Hector is probably closest to your interests--he does a fair bit with Tillich, Schleiermacher, Barth, et al. Moreover, I'd encourage you to apply broadly and spend time after applications reading faculty's work so as to really choose the "best fit" when (hopefully many) acceptances are sent to you. Similarly, think a lot about your preferred theological method. I think that is central in discerning a good school that will further your academic goals.
  9. As a current student at UChicago, I know that AM students sometimes do get full funding. If not full, I've never known someone to not receive fifty percent. I've heard it from a few different sources (admittedly students) that funding for AM students is almost entirely based on GRE scores. I would also echo the above statement that tuition has recently dropped to around 30k--so 15k with a normal package. Hope to see you around next Autumn quarter!
