Ironheel!! replied to trader13's topic in Political Science Forum
so terrorism...(sorry not trying be snarky, but you listed about 80% of what constitutes as terrorism or what you could study). -
Thanks IWPA. Again, sorry to hear about NU.

Can you explain what "a POI tried hard to get me in" entails. Sorry for the hit IWPA.

I was kind of hoping it would be a down year because the economy is on the rebound and its an election year...maybe a few less applicant due to their desire to work on a national campaign. Not sure this would reduce too many applicants, especially given the choice of candidates. Given the state of my psyche at this point, I can rationalize just about anything.

Opening with "Listen, mate" always leads to productive discourse. I think Balderdash was taking into consideration "contingency" when he noted that an 800 will not get you an auto interview.
-
Don't lose faith just yet. You seem to have outstanding applications still. You never know...
-
Balderdash, are you a New Englander? (Im from Maine) My big gift to myself if I get into my top choices is a trip to Spring Training to see the Sox!

I think Rose is out tonight?

There was a nice spot on Lin on the NewsHour the other night. You know its a major sports story if the NewsHour is on it. he had a great game last night. He is proving that even with new defensive strategies (ie, someone actually playing defense on him) his ability to distribute the basketball is quite good. Doesnt hurt to have Armarie back in the lineup. As a Celtics fa, im looking forward to the March 4th Rondo/Lin matchup!

I only got two emails from my boss while reading this fine post! Seriously, great post. But I question why people are so uptight about what they will wear? I suggest out of work actor: A pair of skinny jeans, blue oxford, v-neck sweater, and a cord blazer.

I have an application in at Brown. IR/Comp Latin America.

Everyone knows Cornell's strongest field is their A Cappella groups. However, doesn't get much better than Tarrow!

Uconn? Anyone what to claim?

Jesuit schools are tight. There appears to be a great number of Jesuit universities (and catholic schools in general) that hire from other Jesuit/catholic school. I went to a jesuit UG and we had multiple Profs. from other jesuit/catholic universities (not just in Political Science). I think part of the grat placement at BC must have something to do with that. A smaller catholic school probably loves getting phds from BC, Gtown, ND, Catholic U ect...

Level of education of your parents
Ironheel!! replied to chaetzli's topic in Political Science Forum
I can second this. Dad was military and mom has an associates. Other extended family went to college but mostly elementry ed. So, in that respect, the only thing my parents understand is that I'm going to be one of those "old dads" and that I'll be 30-something before I start a career. Also, they are good ole fashion right wingers, and I am reading Kropotkins memoirs... The argument of "it's a life time pursuit or I hope to be teaching until I'm a 100" has no impact at all. Also, they dont understand why I dont go to (insert state U close to home). Its kind of refreashing not to have to get overly into talking about what I'm doing or hope to do with them, but on another level, I really missed out on parents who should have kicked my ass in UG when I maintained a shit GPA for a few semesters. -
Rush at Rochester? Oh, you mean shoveling out your future advisors car after it snows all day...

District Poetics. Spend my V-day at BusBoys I guess.

Ok its a Haiku time! Balance of Power, Leaf flowing, Tao of sentience, Tathagata, relief!

I hope I get a confectionary acceptance heart that says, "Be Mine" with an impressive chocolate covered strawberry funding package.
