  1. That's what I figured. I just wondered if perhaps someone had received a rejection in the NT subfield. I'm not holding my breath for Emory by any means, I'm just looking for information in the purgatory of waiting for a response. Congrats on the ND interview!
  2. I have heard of a rejection on Emory from some people, but I have yet to receive anything. Does this mean a waitlist? My sub-discipline in is NT.
  3. It's so frustrating to me that UVa doesn't require a writing sample, but then encourages it in personal conversation. I discussed the process with two different professors via e-mail and neither mentioned it. I couldn't get a face-to-face meeting because neither was able to attend SBL this year. Still, this would seem like a rather important detail to mention. Not to mention that a writing sample is probably the best indicator of somone's actual ability as a scholar. I think this is indicative of the way higher education, particularly in the US, often merits reputation over actual ability. Sorry for the rant, this is just so frustrating to find out after the application process that I could have submitted a writing sample had I gotten the right information. What does everyone else think? Am I just being bitter? Anyone here who applied to JCA that did submit a writing sample?
  4. More UVa action on the results search. Anyone know of a JCA person who has been accepted to UVa, or otherwise have info about their process? Compared to years past, this seems early for them to be rolling out decisions. Also, I thought this was odd when I applied, does anyone know why UVa does not ask for a writing sample? Anyone heard anything from SMU?
  5. I'm not seeing the acceptance notification for UVa in the results search. Was it taken down? Or am I missing something? It certainly seems odd that someone would post an acceptance this early for the above mentioned reasons along with Endless Ashley's insight as someone who is already at UVa. Until I hear more, I'm assuming [read: longing] this was a mistake of some kind and UVa is still waiting to decide [read: on me]. All joking aside, UVa looks to be a fantastic program and if someone did already get accepted congrats, but for today at least I'm keeping hope alive.
  6. I am aware of McMaster. Is that where Stanley Porter is? I did not apply for the fellowship with Watson on writing Gospels. I assume that's what you're referring to? I applied to work with Barclay, but Durham does offer fellowship money for international students. I have yet to hear the details of the offer, but I was admitted.
  7. No interview at Emory here, which was as expected. I applied to their early deadline and avoided the fee not expecting much to come of it. I'm very interested to hear back on UVa (JCA). I'm sure it will be, as always, extremely competitive but it doesn't seem to garner the same attention as Duke, Emory, Yale, and Notre Dame. Anyone else seen that, or am I just unaware? I notice that most of the chit-chat revolves around US programs. Anyone applying outside the states?
  8. Okay, so I've applied to UVa and Emory. Anyone else? Kuriakos, When I applied to UChicago last year they asked a lot more financial information than any other school, and I applied to only top-tier programs. I wish I could tell you what to say, but the bottom line is that you can't lie on the application. I know of a guy in the program with a young child, but that's probably not all that helpful. I think you would be fine sending an e-mail to the dean, or anyone you might know on the inside to find out more information about why they ask. BTW, where are you now?
  9. Congratulations. I received the same acceptance e-mail. I have no idea on funding yet.
  10. Anyone apply to Marquette's JCA program? I've seen a couple of theology acceptances but nothing on the JCA program. Anyone heard of NT people gaining acceptance? It's a good fit for me so here's to hoping . . .
  11. I have received a couple of generic e-mails from Baylor to the effect of, "These are all the reasons that Baylor is a fantastic place for graduate studies . . ." After applying in NT, I did not receive an invitation to interview at Baylor, but I'm wondering if this means anything or if everyone else is also receiving them? A friend of mine who applied last year (in systematics) received a similar e-mail and was waitlisted. He thought it might be something they send to candidates with high GRE scores. Anyone else who applied to Baylor getting these gut wrenching e-mails?
