  1. While I won't be coming straight from undergrad, I'm probably only a year or so older than you.
  2. I am wondering if Columbia TC has decided to reject me, and just hasn't told me yet.
  3. The name of the school can matter to some degree depending on the specific subfield of education (a highly disproportionate number of administrators at my universities, particularly upper-level ones, went to "prestigious" schools), but for these purposes, Penn and Harvard are both great schools. It's not like in the law school world where being #4 gives you notably different career prospects than #10 which is also notably different from #15 (and so on). Also, your GRE point is excellent (although I suspect some schools will continue to accept the pre-revision scores for a few more years) as are your points on not taking on debt.
  4. Got a contractor payment check, the Economist, and some conference brochures.
  5. Ditto. I'd be willing to live farther out as long as I can easily walk to a subway line. The Harvard dorms and Harvard properties seem expensive, especially if you add in parking.
  6. Harvard has a huge endowment, and federal loan money will always be there. At most, you may have hurt your chances a bit for some of the [insert weird obscure clause for a very limited set of people here ... like having a particular last name] scholarships.
  7. I need to see how financial aid pans out; they're both great schools.
  8. Congrats on ASU!
  9. Ditto to Michigan Girl and FutureEdStudent12. Penn is a great school, and if you can get an acceptance and money out of them, that would definitely be worth considering.
  10. It is, by far, the longest institutional financial aid application I've filled out this year. You also have to include a copy of your tax return (with all schedules and all 1099 forms).
  11. I got a voicemail for the higher ed program. Unfortunately, given the dates, I'm probably not going to be able to attend the open house.
  12. Also, e-mail I got today said there will be a Higher Education open house on March 29.
  13. Accepted: Harvard, Michigan, Stanford, Vanderbilt MIA: Columbia A lot of it's going to come down to financial aid for me. I would like to give Michigan kudos for not requiring completion of any institutional aid form, and for already putting together the work-study/loans part of my financial aid package.
  14. You need your HUID in your online acceptance letter to create a PIN (which has a bunch of rules for creating it ... basically, just create a good password). In order to activate your PIN, you can either have an activation code sent by postal mail or a good-for-24-hours activation link sent by e-mail. Once activated, your HUID seems to be your username and your PIN is basically just a password.
  15. Congrats to eveyone who got in!
  16. It made me sad that they wanted all of my 1099 forms (and it wasn't until March 1 that it clicked that I had more 1099 forms than just 1099-MISC). I have too many of them.
  17. Congrats on TC!
  18. In a touch of irony, I did not actually get the HGSE newsletter e-mail. Hoping all of you hear good things soon/tomorrow!
  19. Congrats!
  20. Hoping y'all hear good news this week!
  21. Hope you have a very happy birthday!
  22. Aww. But there's enough spots for all of us.
