  1. My dad served in the Navy for a while back in the late 80s and has taken some college level courses in Spanish/English to help boost his pay at his current job, but has never had anything all that formal in his post-secondary education. My mom went to college back in the 70s, dropped out and then entered again five years ago and is currently pursuing her Masters in Health Information Management. My sister went to NYU to get her B.A. and is currently trying to gain more research experience before she applies for Ph.D. programs in Psych.
  2. Congrats to everyone so far and to those who have yet to get in anywhere, chin up mates! I've asked about the Minnesota acceptances before (there have been three posted for this season, one of which has joined this discussion - apparently Adcoms do not keep the sabbath holy and call admitees at 9-10 P.M. on Sunday nights...crazy stuff). I received an email on Tuesday from Minnesota saying, "At this time your application is complete and has been forwarded to the admissions committee for review. The committee will notify you of its decision as soon as possible." To any of the three Minnesota acceptees, do you have any perspective as to whether or not this is a rolling process (as this message would seem to imply, given that only 3 have posted) or was the email I received essentially code for "we've already accepted everyone we were planning on accepting and are just sending this email out as we finalize our wait-list."
  3. I know there have been two or three comments which have been made about culture/nightlife in the town, but does anyone else who is either currently a grad student at FSU or has lived in the Tallahassee area care to comment on the culture/night-life/what they do on the weekends/going to beaches? I am trying to decide between two pretty academically comparable departments on opposite sides of the country, so because of this, the amount of importance I am giving to geography/culture has increased a fair amount. I am really a beach type of guy and I notice most of the posters have commented that you cannot get to any beaches without driving 1.5-2 hours minimum. I was wondering namely why this was so/why the gulf panhandle/upper-west coast of Florida is largely undeveloped? Also, if you had to pick your top three restaurants/bars in Tallahassee, what would they be? Thanks!
  4. Anybody have predictions for when Minnesota will be releasing?
  5. Ohio State just broke my balls, even if it was somewhat expected
  6. Someone posted an OSU rejection?
  7. Congrats! They called on a Sunday??
  8. BMW M5 series all the way. Also, I'm predicting/hoping Ohio State will start trickling out whatever remaining acceptances they have to offer (if they have any), as well as waitlists/rejections by the end of the week. Really would like to hear back from Minnesota, but I think we'll probably have another two weeks before we hear anything from their end.
  9. I would also like to know what your response to the Ohio State email ends up being. Thanks!
  10. I am too looking to specialize in political psychology (ergo the username) and have research interests in a) the social psychological roots of political violence, particularly international conflict (a merging of traditional American Politics with IR) and the role that prosociality (egoism/altruism) plays in the selection/perceived legitimacy of political leaders. I also have an interest in the intersection of behavioral game theory and psychology. Of the schools I have applied to, I know Ohio State and Minnesota have very excellent political psychology faculty/programs. I am not, however, aware of much of the faculty/departments at UC-Irvine and Florida State, though I have heard good things about both. Anyone more familiar than me with either of these two programs care to offer any more detailed insights? Thanks!
  11. Straight through likewise. Bring it on!
  12. Congrats to you likewise! I would like to attend and will probably end up going if they would be able to cover some of the cost of airfare given that I live in South Carolina. What about you?
  13. Got into UC-Irvine + full funding! Woo!
  14. Wish I could claim the UCLA letter but nope, nothing on this front yet.
  15. For all of you who have been accepted to Wisconsin-Madison already, how soon did you hear back?
