  1. Money's the matter for my partner. She has good fits everywhere, and has gotten along with everyone she's spoken to. I guess the visits will be the clincher.
  2. My SO got chauffered around on a golf cart when she visited Princeton. I kid you not.
  3. ticklemepink, it sure seems like you do a lot of extrapolating based on your own experiences. wikichic is right that it varies. you may have a good chance. from what i understand, brandeis doesn't have many slots available, so that seems like may lend itself to a viable waitlist, since only need a few accepted students to turn it down to get under desired yield. can't play the law of averages with admits alone like a larger program can.
  4. so frustrating not to get any news this week (although did hear from toronto (medieval studies) over the weekend). most of the rest of my partner's programs are in religion departments, which typically notify later than history depts.
  5. I agree with your advice, Ticklemepink, but I can't help finding your post a bit obnoxious. Sure, lots of folks have positive interactions with POI's, but my guess is not that many are actually told that POI "thinks it will work out." I think Uhohle had good reason to be optimistic (and hopefully still does!).
  6. I am actually my SO's lurker on Gradcafe, but she does a lot with gender and history of christianity. She was admitted to the Ph.D.I didn't see any MA admits, so they probably do them separately--probably because putting together funding is what they're working on now, at least for the PhD admits. They didn't ask for cv, so now they are asking for those to see who gets what kind of fellowship.
  7. UToronto Center for Medieval Studies just announced, don't know if anybody here applied there.
  8. UToronto's Center for Medieval Studies announced. Don't know if anybody else here applied.
  9. Thought that might be the case, I did some looking at prior years & compared. History seems to go really early. Almost as fast as the sciences can be.
  10. My significant other applied to both history and religious history/religion programs, about half the time at the same universities. I wonder if anyone else has applied to 2 wholly different fields (because these history acceptances seem really early, and we haven't heard a thing from her other field). Just another layer of nail-biting, hoping to find commiseration.
  11. I googled the Mellon thing, and it looks like lots of schools have something similar. The letter was not very forthcoming.
  12. Anybody get one of these: "Mellon Foundation Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Studies" from Northwestern? They revised my partner's admit letter and told her she gets this in addition to the regular fellowship. Are these hard to get or in any way known by people in the history world? I have never heard of this.
  13. I am the neurotic one of our duo. I was so excited to answer the phone when the call came. I think I am more excited than she is.
  14. That's my partner. So far, Northwestern and Brown are good to go for my beloved Thanks!
  15. thanks, pugsley. hope you're right!
  16. any admissions to brown? my partner's status is still no decision.
  17. my partner is the Northwestern acceptance (I'm much more neurotic about these things though, so I'm the one lurking on grad cafe!). exciting! was first response. sorry to folks who didn't make it.
