I've only heard great things about the Grad Center. Serious congrats. -

You're right! I'm trying not to beat myself up. I'll keep you posted... I should have a decision by tomorrow or Tuesday. The UMN grad school FAQ says that if it's moved to "Final Review," then one should expect a decision (usually) within the next two business days. -
Haha, seriously, me too!

Thank you, lyonessrampant! I feel really, really silly... So, back when I was doing research on University of Minnesota, I checked out the few Romanticists that are teaching there. The website listed Dr. Brian Goldberg (http://english.umn.edu/faculty/profile.php?UID=goldb016), who received his PhD from Indiana University. I for one should have e-mailed to reach out to him in general, but I decided not to for some reason (which is very uncharacteristic of me... I'm usually very outgoing). Once my application status was moved to "Final Review" I decided to google Dr. Goldberg again. I found out more about his research, and, as it turns out, he went to the same undergraduate institution that I am about to graduate from... and he studies Romanticism... and of course I didn't contact him. I e-mailed him two days again... better late then never, I suppose? I know that maybe even the contact wouldn't have made a difference, but still, I like to think it probably could have helped a little... -
I think it's strange that you all got an e-mail from the UMD DGS... It specifically says on my ASF form "Your application is now complete. It is currently being processed or soon will be. Thanks. If the status of your application is "COMPLETE", that indicates that all required support documents have been received and that your file is ready to be reviewed for decision. After the review is completed, you will receive a letter with the decision recommendation in the mail. Decision information cannot be given out over the phone or in email correspondence." I e-mailed Sangeeta Ray a few days ago asking about timelines but she hasn't responded yet.

I completely feel you as well. That's great for your friend, but that would kill me too. This waiting game is the most miserable experience ever. Trying to keep my sanity over here. Be well and I hope you hear back with some positive news! Bah that interview situation sounds so grim. However, it's definitely likely that not everyone they accept will take the offer, so you still have a good chance, I think. I know what you mean about wishing them ill fate while acting as if you're excited about their acceptance! Its definitely not over until it's over. I don't have an MA yet, I have two BA's (well, I will in two months... Ive finished both my degrees, I'm just in my last semester trying to complete 6 elective credits). I will feel like rubbish if I don't get accepted anywhere, though... I've worked so hard for four years (in a variety of ways) and it'd be truly a dagger to my confidence if I need to start a collection of rejection letters. -

Thank you, TripWillis! I sure hope it happens. I just see a lot of implicit rejections coming soon. Congrats on your acceptances to CUNY, SUNY Buffalo, and UMass. I'd to go CUNY and UMass any day. I already go to a SUNY school in the middle of nowhere, so I shied away from applying to Buffalo haha. -

I'm nearly ready to break down in tears, just as many of you have agreed in earlier posts. I keep seeing these threads of schools I applied to and how they've all sent out their first acceptances and wait lists and interview weekends, and I just can't handle it anymore. I need to get off this fucking computer and stop reading about other people's decisions. Congrats to everyone who has gotten in to at least one school! For all those who haven't gotten in anywhere yet: I feel you, I love you even though I don't even know you, and let's stay strong...somehow. -
I too haven't heard a single thing from Maryland.

I'm eagerly waiting to hear back from Santa Cruz too.

University of Oregon (along with UMinnesota) is my top choice. I applied for the PhD to study with Forest Pyle. He's doing awesome work on Romanticism and contemporary culture, and his scholarship on Shelley is wonderful. I'm really antsy to hear back from UO. I may e-mail Mr. Stamm as well.

Any Chapel Hill-ers?

Yeah, I have a feeling I'm gong to get rejected from all 12. I have NO plan B and NO idea what I will do with my life if I don't get into graduate school... -

Lyonessrampant, Meep, I'm just starting to think I won't get in anywhere. -

This is one of my top choices for an array of reasons. My application has moved to "Final Review." I'm getting a bit nervous... If we are re-directed to some link via e-mail then we're probably not accepted, correct? It seems as if admits are being called by phone. -
I still haven't heard back yet... Are people hearing via e-mail? I keep getting slightly disconcerted when I keep seeing people get accepted while I still haven't heard a word..

Damn, I applied to UNC Chapel Hill for the PhD in English, but according to ya'll above it seems as if they've sent out their acceptances and wait-lists. I haven't heard anything.. No news is bad news? -
I'm waiting on English/Literature programs as well. According to GC, one of my top choice programs gave out some decisions via phone in the past couple of days. My status has been changed to "Final Review," and if they notify me this week via e-mail then I'm going to get ready for disappointment. I can completely empathize with the feeling that I'm going to be rejected... from every school. Haha.

This February has taught me to: obsessively and compulsively check my e-mail, run to my mail box like a little child every day, and nervously play with my beard/bite my nails. Thank you, graduate school admissions committees.
