  1. I just got my official acceptance letter from Nevada, complete with an invitation to recruitment weekend. Happyhappyhappybouncybouncybouncy.
  2. Oh, my God, all of this good news.
  3. Hang in there, guys. It can't be that much longer. And when good news does come down the pike, you can be all
  4. Based on the results board, it appears today Nebraska is sending out acceptances for students who are waitlisted for funding and that they contacted their acceptances-with-funding over the phone this weekend.
  5. Thanks so much for all the well-wishes, everybody. I don't think I've stopped smiling since 4:15 this afternoon. I can't even describe the relief of knowing that, no matter what happens, I'm going somewhere in the fall. So I asked Natalie Dee to do it for me.
  6. Cheryll Glotfelty from the University of Nevada, Reno just emailed me to tell me that they have not finalized their acceptances yet, but that the committee has already voted to give me admission with a Teaching Assistantship. I'm... I'm in. I'm in. I did it.
  7. So even though I didn't apply to Vandy, you guys got me curious and I looked at the results page. Good Lord. I am so sorry, y'all. If it makes you feel any better, there are a couple of (married) profs in my department who both went to Vandy. One of my former Masters cohort asked one of them for a LOR to Vandy and she just sighed and said, "I'll write you a letter, but you should know I couldn't even get my own children in there." Trust me, it is probably not you - it's just one of those schools that nobody ever seems to get into.
  8. I probably only find this delightful because I have a dachshund, but observe. Oh mah gah. So. Many. Weiners.
  9. Wait. Waitwaitwait. Hibiscus grapefruit gin? Where do you purchase such a thing?
  10. I did this just this evening, then I looked in and saw a new email! It rejected my proposal for a conference paper.
  11. Sing it. Ever-ee-thang's gonna beeee all right, rockabye. Rockabye.
  12. If I don't get in anywhere this year, my plan is to join the ACME Detective Agency and track Carmen Sandiego across the globe for the rest of my days. Yep.
  13. Yaaaaaay! So glad at least one of us got in.
  14. I know three years ago, Maryland extended eighteen first-round offers, aiming for a cohort of twelve, and were taken completely off-guard when all eighteen accepted. Obviously, that's a rare situation, but they had to run around and scramble to get funding for those other six students. It ended up where they didn't take any Ph.D.s the following year and it was only last year where they opened the program up again.
  15. I am out of upvotes (so many acceptances today!), so please have this:
  16. For anyone applying to the Texas Tech Ph.D., I emailed the graduate director and he sent me my waitlist letter, which says acceptances and rejections have gone out. Apparently, funding is extremely competitive this year and they have a policy in place about not offering admission to anyone who they cannot promise full funding for five years. It's a very nice letter that says being placed on the waitlist should be considered a compliment and "we remain positive about your application materials and hope that we will be able to admit you to study here for Fall 2013." So that's something at least.
  17. I've applied to Emory two years running now and I was not offered an interview either year. My understanding is that getting an interview does not mean you are necessarily in and not getting an interview is pretty much an indication that you're out. Obviously nothing is official until word comes from the graduate director, but it's probably not a good sign. Sorry, wish I had better news for you.
  18. My heart just dropped into my stomach until I saw that you're applying for the MA, not the Ph.D. Congrats on your acceptance; do you happen to know if they're notifying everybody today or just the MAs?
  19. I've done just this with the professors I contacted at the two universities I've been rejected from. All that's needed is a quick note, something along the lines of "I'm sorry to tell you that I was not recommended for admission" and thanking them for their time in writing you. You may hear something back, you may not (I got a very encouraging email from one and a very generic "best wishes" email from the other), but it never hurts to make nice. These are your future colleagues and it's always good to keep a connection somewhere.
  20. Yes, there is. Being on the same page, 10.5 months apart.
  21. No idea why, but I only got rejected by Kansas this morning. I can't imagine why they would send out a bunch of rejections on Thursday and then wait until Monday to get the rest out. Bah.
