  1. Let me know what Boston is like!
  2. Good advice! I think I'm going to do religion and the academy as my focus. What were their results, generally speaking, it I may ask? Thanks!!
  3. But if one wants to do a PhD in theology or a ThD, these languages are probably required, right? If I do a PhD, though, I'm interested in the in the field that inspired the first part or my username. Still, whenever I talk to older people (like my father, a few professors, etc) that have master's in theology, they all studied Greek and hebrew. Why the change??
  4. WC is great :-) Question: I was looking at my course requirements at BU STH for the MDiv (yes, I'm excited), and I realized that neither Greek nor Hebrew is a requirement for the degree. At least, I found no mention of a language requirement. All 96 credit hours are accounted for. Am I wrong? And if I'm not, is this normal?
  5. I lived right next to WC for most of my life (before attending college 1300 miles away), and my father received a grad degree in theology there before attending med school. It's a great school, beautiful campus, awesome cafeteria and gymnasium, fairly rigorous, safe area, and tons to do. Don't give up :-). Im biased, though... I love that school. Anyway, the people at Candler are super nice! If your choice is between Duke and Candler, then I think the future looks bright for you :-).
  6. So, another question: in grad school, is the reading primarily from books (paper or e-) or PDFs?
  7. I want to be in an underground theological association!
  8. I will, too, when I'm not on the mobile version of TGC :-D
  9. Can you put the new apple os on any netbook? will the netbook still run quickly? If so, that's tempting...
  10. I bought a toshiba netbook over 4 years ago (wow...maybe 5 almost...), and it's still going (though dying now--but will take me through the rest of the semester). I wouldn't spend more than $350. I spent $300 ( brand new ) on mine on Amazon when I got it. Actually, I'm in a physiology class at the moment, and this girl has a HUGE laptop with her... looks cumbersome!! Go netbook if you don't want to spend more for a MacBook air. I really wish iPads were more functional!
  11. I wish the iPad was suitable for grad school; it looks so cute and portable
  12. I want to start grad school now... Anyone doing anything fun this summer? I'll be taking yet another "admissions" test to prep for when I finish my MDiv ha...
  13. That's what I'm going to do! I think they give up to $2200, but I'm not sure a laptop or desktop for humanities students would need to even cost half of that :-)
  14. coming from a dude that's about to earn a degree in a science field before heading to BU STH, let me tell you this: science isn't truth. Science is a process; a way to obtain information, and to feel somewhat confident about it. It's a very particular way to obtain information (though not the only way). Good luck with your journey, and don't forget to keep reading. :-D
  15. so, any apple "rumors" about upcoming laptops? also, I'm going to check Craig's list for iPads. If I could snag one for $100, that would be cool!
  16. Wow! They are offering some sweet courses, too!
  17. Just checked it out! I deferred matriculation last year, so it's been a bit since I was on the website :-). That "anthropology of the religious (part 1 & part 2)" @ HDS (open to BTI students) looks awesome. I'm definitely excited to move to Boston and finally begin at BU!
  18. we should, and thanks! i wonder when the fall '12 course lists are going to be posted?
  19. Hey, thanks for the reply! I have a netbook right now, and they are pretty good. I love mine, but it's almost dead. I may go with an 11" macbook air. interestingly, they can be had (with the educational discount) for about $900. if it can last almost 4 years, then that's money well-spent, right? i have an iphone, too, so i'd like everything to be on one platform (or whatever it's called). i also love how tiny and cute the macbook air is :-) Alienware is sweet! haha it was a great answer!
  20. That's awesome you'll be a student at BU this fall! We'll have to meet up! Also, I'm nervous that an iPad just isn't adequate enough for academics. Right? I am eyeing the MacBook air (smallest one), and I will pretty much only use it for the Internet and writing papers and Netflix. (I'm fine with a small screen. Currently, while x-training for a marathon, i watch movies via Netflix on wifi on the stationary bike... Haha... So 13" would be ok I think.)
  21. First, nice on the GA in bio/phys! I'm an RA in an immunology/parasitology lab. Second, I'd probably go with a laptop no larger than 13", and my budget is whatever the school allows to be part of financial aid. Thanks for the reply!
