Me and you both! GAAH

to the op, I don't think you "opt out" of any jobs by specializing. I think for the most part an msw degree is a generalized degree and experience is what weights more, ultimately. During the info session at ucla, the speaker spoke about having worked in a vast amount of fields thoughout his career.

From what I've read in other posts (directly from those who were part of admissions committees), it's okay if you mention it so long as you don't focus entirely on it and also mention what steps you have taken to ensure it does not hinder your ability to do well in the program (ie specific studying techniques, support system, etc.). I think if worded well, it could definitely give you an advantage as a diverse applicant who has overcome barriers. Good luck! here is the link for the posts, on the the 2nd page

Oh geeze, that just made me more anxious.
-
Wow that is soon. Sorry to hear that. Do you mind sharing when you turned in your application? Good luck with your other schools!

I like that CSULB let's you sort of test the waters the first year before committing to a specialization the second. Who knows, I may like working with a completely different population. Anyway, good luck to both of you!

This is great information! Thanks for sharing guys! Sounds like they will notifying us sooner than other programs, which is great. I wonder what the criteria will be for some getting interviews and others not. I imagine it will be when they are on the fence about an applicant, which is more nerve wrecking. Still the acceptance rate is reassuring, compared to nearby programs. I really liked the presentation they gave during the info sessions, very inviting. Good luck to all!

Yeah I asked usc for an extension. They gave me an additional two weeks. Though I assume it depends on the school.
-
I think you are able to ask for an extension. You can also reach out to the schools to see where you stand.

Mm It was a few days before the deadline, I believe around the 11th. I'm sure they haven't gotten around to it yet. When did you apply? And what concentration?
-
It's on their website, under admissions and fact sheet I believe.

I just turned in my application, though since I haven't had the greatest luck before with this program, I am not holding my breath. Though it would be a dream if i could get in. I'm specifically interested in their PPS credential. Anyone else interested in that specialization?

Hello everyone, wanted to start a thread for csuf. I assume some must be getting their interview dates right around now. I'm impatiently waiting!

Congrats calicoast! Those are two great programs! I wish I had applied to san diego. I love the city. Good luck with your decision!

EEP I wonder when UCLA will start sending out notifications. Anyone been notified of anything yet? I'm extremely nervous because I am still attempting to add the statistics class needed :/

CSULB has been known to take a while in getting back to students. Probably because they receive a ton of applications, many of whom are qualified. *fingers crossed*

USC MSW admissions/Those who are applying or were accepted before?
esp.msw replied to danibo's topic in Social Workers Forum
Honestly, I don't think USC is that difficult to get into. Not for the MSW program anyway. I think UCLA is far more difficult. -
I agree completely! Not sure if the people applying this year are unaware of this site or there are less applicants this year. I think, however, that it is largely due to the tendency of many applicants to apply at the last minute. So it's likely we'll see a surge in posts after the deadlines. Hoping that isn't the case though! *crosses fingers*

I don't think it matters how long you've been with an agency. What matters is if you spend enough time at the agency to gain relevant experience, learn about the population and gain skills. I know there are some programs that have minimum requirements for the amount of volunteer/work experience needed to have to apply. It sounds like you have a vast amount of experience. Just make sure to highlight what you've learned from each in your personal statements. I think what programs want to see is if you can adequately link the social work profession morals and ethics to your own personal experiences (ie volunteer, work and personal experiences). Lastly, I would contact the department for clarification as well.

I agree^ When they send you an acceptance letter they usually send a timeframe too. You an always ask for an extension if you feel you need one. Students will do this when they are waiting to hear back form other schools. Though, remember, deposits are non-refundable! (for the most part).

I remember when I applied 2 years ago this forum was CRACKIN'! It seems everyone is in hiding this year. I'm hoping that this means less applicants *crosses fingers* and not that they are all waiting for those last minute deadlines -___-

I need help guys! I'm calculating my last 90 quarter units, however I transferred from a CC on a semester system. I only completed 80 units during my junior and senior year, so i'm trying to count back but that leaves me midway into my semester at my CC. SO, do i count the entire semester? That means i'll be calculating 103 units. I hope that makes sense :/ Thanks guys!
