  1. I don't know if they're even close to done... don't lose hope. BTW, who are the POIs?
  2. I think CUNY interviews are going out today. I heard an hour ago.
  3. Do you want to be in a lab where "slow progress" is a problem?
  4. Hey I was wondering if the person who said they were accepted to CUNY's Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience program could PM me the name of their POI. Thanks so much!
  5. Anyone hear from U Michigan-Ann Arbor's Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience program?
  6. Hey ck926. Do you think he hasn't interviewed you because he knows you already (so, what's the point of an interview)? I don't know how this works, but I would think it would be weird to do the one-on-one interview with someone you've worked with closely for 2 years. Does your school do the pre-screen interview by faculty then invite to larger interview sctick? Maybe he just skipped that part for you? It seems weird that he wouldn't have said anything if he wasn't going to accept you.
  7. Could you work with one of your PhD POIs? First, maybe they'll be more likely to take you if they love you and already know what you are capable of. (Caveat... some people don't like accepting their own students. Snoop around to make sure your POI is not one of them.) Second, if you're like me, then all of the people you are applying to have done post-docs together, collaborated with each other, know each other fairly well in some way. Because of that an LOR from one of your POIs would be awesome for all of your schools. Apart from undergrad GPA, your stats are awesome. I would love to have your pubs . With an MA, shouldn't BA GPA be a bit close to irrelavent anyway (although "it counts")? I second Quantum Buckyball's suggestion about doctoral classes. Are you still an MA student? If so, can you actually take doctoral classes for credit (we could in our program if we groveled).
  8. Thanks so much! ... I'm actually thinking for me it was SOP, research fit, LORs (not best fit), and maybe research experience.
  9. KEEP DOING RESEARCH!!! (sorry for shouting, but I had too ) There are some post-bac research programs though, that are awesome and you could do after an MA (that's my plan). However, don't go back and fix your undergrad GPA. I think that's even more true if you're doing well in your MA.
  10. Meh... just got the Duke CNAP rejection letter. C'est la vie. Has anyone apply to CUNY for the Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience program? Have you heard back yet?
  11. Hi all! I'm so embarrassed to ask, because I felt like my application was sloppy and haphazardly put together. (I have this bizzare fantasy of someone lauging in my face because my application was so horrible). But, I know that I really should (and really want to) ask so that I have a better idea of what I'm going to do to make myself a better candidate for the next time I apply. Any suggestions? Have you done this before?
  12. gellert... I know that some apps may have been sent to other depts for better fit. I don't know if that means you're supposed to get a Duke CNAP rejection letter though. Do you think they may be considering you elsewhere? I would definitely call.
  13. I second gellert's question. I know I'll have to apply again. Trying to figure out what the best course of action will be for me and would appreciate the advice too
  14. I applied to Duke's Cogneuro admit program. Didn't get an invite (expected that though)...
  15. Oops and the University of Pittsburgh. ..which program and PI?
  16. Hey! I would really appreciate it if someone could PM me the POIs at Stanford (Affective Science) and Columbia (psych GSAS). I would be REALLY thankful. Also, this isn't for me because I'm not doing clinical, but CUNY (City College/ clinical)...who is interviewing you?
  17. In the past, it seems CUNY contacted people in the third-ish week of Jan. I wouldn't worry yet.
  18. I wanted to "bump" this thread. Does anyone have any suggestions for non-academic jobs for cognitive psychology/neurocognitive psychology people?
  19. @PsychCT..."4 publications, all in high-impact journals in psychiatry" after you apply and get in, can I have your research coordinator job ? I would KILL for your background. Have you checked out average GRE scores for your programs? How far away are you? You may not be as off as you think. As long as your scores are "good enough" to make the cut, the rest of your profile will make up for it.
  20. For me, I don't think I want to because I already have an MA that required a thesis and my coursework was experimental heavy. However, if the course work is significantly different from what i've already done...I'll think about it.
  21. I agree with PsychGirl1... I know people who were in your position as undergrads and are competitive now. Don't give up but the time isn't now. Good luck! I think you eshoukd start looking for research opportunities.
  22. Maybe this can be a thread for this sort of thing for all of us? I'll share what I know too... So, I am applying to PhD programs in neurocognition and I need some smart back ups. i'm afraid this cycle doesn't look good for me... My teaching load for the past year's been too heavy--I'm behind but trying to make the best of it. I really want something that will strengthen my research/analytical skills in case I'm rejected from everything. I finished a BA/MA program in psych a year ago so I don't want to do any psych masters programs unless they're Quant psych and funded. Sounds random, I know, but having better stats skills would be useful. Another MA may be a stupid way of going about it? Gah...I have no idea! Considering one Quant Psych MA and the post-bac fellowship at Duke. I don't know what else to do that may require an app before March. Maybe lab manager and RC positions? What chances do I have at positions like that at neurocognitive labs if all me research to date is behavioral (3 years, 3 posters, an honors thesis and an MA thesis). Currently I'm in a new lab (since May) and I should have some ERP experience by the time I apply to RC/lab manager positions? Anyone take a paid position? How was it? Any advice? I want to be in a challenging environment where I have lots of skill building work...
