  1. Oh dear! I have not received any information in the mail yet. I just e-mailed Rosie to see if she had any information on financial aid or scholarships. I'm wondering if I just might not be up to snuff for a scholarship? I don't know what kind of academic credentials they require--I have a 3.76 undergrad GPA and I've been working in admissions for two years. And still no word on the assistantship front, though I applied to about ten. I find it hard to believe that they can expect people to pay full price, without any assistance from a GA or financial aid/scholarships, but maybe they do! I'm crossing my fingers.
  2. I was unexpectedly admitted into HGSE last night and now I'm facing a crisis! Vandy was always my top choice and I know I want to be there, but I hate myself for getting caught up in the name behind Harvard. Does anyone have any advice for choosing one over the other? (or, really, in helping me confirm that I want to choose Vandy over Harvard and that I'm not shooting myself in the foot?) Feel free to PM me too! Thank you!
  3. Accepted!! I can't believe it. I'm definitely choosing Vanderbilt over Harvard, though I have to admit it will be hard to say no to Harvard. This feeling isn't even real. Congratulations to everyone else!
  4. congrats on getting an assistantship!! Which one is it? That's so exciting, and a huge weight off your shoulders I bet!
  5. oh wow! Ok so am I, which makes me a little nervous now. But congratuilations, that's really great news and probably a huge burden lifted! I'll still cross my fingers.
  6. Totally. It just seems a little silly since most (not all, but most) other schools have already notified candidates.
  7. I want to say that I would expect better from Harvard...ugh come on. This is ridiculous!
  8. Vegamble, what program are you in? I'm wondering (and hoping!) that specific programs get that information at different times. I still have yet to hear anything on the aid front...(I'm higher ed)
  9. Ok, how about the second any of us masters students hears something about financial aid, we notify the group here? If for no reason other than to calm my anxieties that the info did go out.
  10. congrats to you, too, Breakonthrough007! I'm loving all of this positive energy.
  11. I double majored in English and French in undergrad and will be starting at Vandy this fall for Higher Ed. I think that since there is no real UG degree specifically in higher ed, you can really come at it from any variety of education background. You defintiely do not need an UG degree in education to pursue higher ed--I think they really like the diverse range of prior educational and professional experiences.
  12. congrats trvlg4 on your acceptance into Vandy!
  13. It does sound like the PhD candidates have received their aid information before the Masters students...that's a good point about the sequester factor, though. I think they said "early March," so I'm hoping any day now we'll get some news. Am I the only person who checks their e-mail and mailbox frantically around this time for any information at all? Also, the wait from my other two schools is slowly getting to me. Even if I don't go elsewhere, I just want to KNOW if I got in!
  14. ASzofer, the assistantship part is the one part of this whole thing that is giving me the most stress! I had one interview during Visit Day and have heard nothing since, so I don't think that's a good sign..it's killing me though!
  15. haha seriously! I think I'm going to gain 500 pounds over the next two years. I hope the gym facilities are nice because I'll probably have to spend a lot of time there to counteract all the fried chicken and biscuits I'll be eating. I haven't heard any financial aid news for the Higher Ed program yet, either. Hpefully it'll come sooner, rather than later. Congratulations to everyone else who has already received that information! I'm crossing my fingers for all of us (myself included!)
  16. Congrats on your acceptance, too, ASzofer! It sounds like such an amazing program, doesn't it? I also applied to Harvard! I don't think I have a prayer of being accepted, and I don't really want to go--but we'll see what happens. It's hard not knowing what the financial aid situation is looking like for Peabody yet. Is the Harvard program in your area a one or two year program? For higher ed, it's only one year, which is a huge detterant for me. I'm nervous about feeling super overwhelmed and having to cram everything into just one year. I think Boston is a great city, too, but Nashville is also wonderful! And more manageable, I think. Plus, all that amazing southern food--I basically ate my way through last weekend.
  17. I was at Visit Day last weekend I'll definitely be headed to Vandy in the fall! I got an apartment already, so it looks like I really have to go now...haha.
  18. Hey! I got into the Higher Ed Admin program and I was just at the Visit Day program this past weekend--I loved everything about everything, so I'll definitely be headed to Peabody in the fall! For anyone: feel free to message me! I'd love to chat with and get to know other admitted and enrolling students
  19. I'll be there both days! Looking to see if there is anyone else going, too?

Thanks for the great advice! Are you going to be at Visit Day for Vanderbilt next Friday? (conmgratulations on your acceptances!)
  21. Hi! I currently live in Northampton and work in Amherst and so I can give you a bit of a sense to the area. I really love it here! There's a reason Amherst was rated the #1 college town in the country a few years in a row--between Amherst and Northampton, there are countless restaurants (lots of ethnic food options and variety, including vegetarian/vegan options), bookstores, cafes, shops, libraries, museums, etc. It's a cultural and artsy hotspot. You'll be able to find anything you would find in a big city, but on a smaller scale. Hadley has all of your big name corporate shopping places like Stop and Shop, Bed, bath, and Beyond, Barnes and Noble, Target, Walmart, etc. More mom and pop shops in Amherst and Northampton. It's a very laidback, open, kind of funky area. It's the perfect place to be while in school or as a post-grad. I'm sad to be leaving it in a few months when I head off to grad school!

Thank you! This is helpful. I'll be down there in a week and a half and will do a little hunting around the area to scope it out.

Hey everyone! I'm most likely moving to Nashville this summer to start grad school at Vandy in the fall, and I'm wondering if someone can please share some helpful information on what are some ideal neighborhoods or areas to live in? I'd like to not be TOO far from campus, and am unsure what the cost of living for renting is like. I'd probably have a roommate. Thanks so much!
  24. I also only applied to four schools, but I don't think I'll hear back from the others until at least the end of this month/March. No crossover with your other schools, though. It's such a funny feeling, like being back in high school and feeling so relieved that you know you're going SOMEWHERE. I'm trying to not let the Second Semester Senior mentality sneak up on me!
  25. Hi everyone! I received an e-mail on Tuesday inviting me to the Visit Day on 2/22. I'm thrilled to be admitted; Vandy is my top choice school and the Higher Ed Admin program looks perfect. I'd love to chat with other admitted students!
