  1. @FOXSoccer #WatchinFSNews Samba, I hope I win
  2. No you're not competitive at all. Why didn't you get a 4.0 GPA and and 800 on the verbal and at least a 6 on W. Probably need to speak 10 more languages and shoot fire out of your ass to be competitive.
  3. You make a good point and yeah I do have to figure out what it is that I want. I am not originally from the US, and went to law school not because I wanted to, but because I got in and did not know what else to do right after undergrad, so I ended up doing the safe thing. I will however figure out what I want in the next two months, and study for the GRE in the mean time. Good luck with your pHD, now that sounds intense. The market is too saturated for lawyers these days, so either you open up your shop and most don't succeed with that, or you do doc review until you decide to leave the field and pretty much take anything that doesn't involve you clicking for 10 hours.
  4. I am 27 years old, and I have a BA and a JD and I now, after having worked for a couple of years and not liked working in the legal field, I am thinking of getting an MA in International Relations although an MBA could also be worth it, since I am heavily into corporate affairs, or at least my job is. Anyway, this is not the point, I am just wondering whether it is wise to go back to school, it would most likely be when I am 29. I wonder whether adcomms will look at me as a professional student or whether I can overcome this label. I did not enter law school with the right mindset and even during law school should have quit but never did and I really feel like I wasted my time there. My other option was to open up a solo practice, but I quickly dismissed that since I don't like being a lawyer...my own boss I like being but ultimately the risk versus reward was too skewed. Does anyone here have a similar story of essentially back to back grad degrees?
  5. This thread has taken a pretty nasty tone. Thanks for whatever Input I got here, I'll take what I can get. And thanks a lot to blessyourheart for the oxford distance learning site. And yes, Virginia does have odd residency laws, but I am a resident of DC, so I can go to UDC for classes, then again for a resident of DC its still around 1K for a class. Good luck.
  6. @Blessyourheart Am I reading this correctly, a class (Macroeconomics) is only 210 Pounds. That sounds too cheap to be true. I know that education in Britain is relatively cheap compared to the corporate universities here, but wow. Thanks a lot, very kind of you to show me this link.
  7. Ouch. I guess I should probably not bother applying after getting reamed here. I thought I may have an alright shot, maybe like 20% to get into one of the DC schools, I guess I was pretty wrong with that.
  8. Thanks for the responses to both Myrnist and JMO although more to JMO, still didn't mean for a spat to ensue and yes, I was there during the war, it has been a pretty tumultuous period in the country and it's been downhill from there. I guess I should look for some work opportunities in that field to make myself more competitive.
  9. I am wondering just what my chances are. I am trying to first and foremost get into a school in DC since my wife and I live here and she works here. My story is a long one. I went to Law School and did not like it, but continued and ended up graduating with a low GPA, I currently work at private corporate institution as a legal adviser after having passed the New York Bar. These are my stats Applying For: Masters in INternational Relations Schools Considering Applying To: SAIS, SFS, SIS, Elliot and SIPA (why not) Undergraduate institution: American University of Beirut; Went to Law School to a 3rd tier in Midwest Undergraduate GPA: 3.2; Law School: 2.8 Undergraduate Major: Political Science - concentration International Relations; Minor in Middle eastern history GREs: 161 Verbal (89 Percentile); 164 Quantitative (91 percentile) AW 5.5 Relevant Work Experiences: Volunteered in refugee camps while in Undergrad. Everything has been law related, with no IR emphasis. I am 26 and lived approximately 21 years abroad, in Germany and Lebanon, pretty much 10 and 10. Languages: English, Arabic; German ; Conversational in French I know that my GPA for both UG and Law School will be a problem, but I don't know if my GRE scores can offset that, while whether my language skills and actually having a law degree could be useful. IR has been my passion and law school was a huge mistake, after moving to DC and the recent uprisings in the area, I felt compelled to study it yet again, but I would love to get into either SAIS or SFS, what do you think my chances are.
