  1. That is a much better advice than I gave. You really should feel committed about attending graduate school.
  2. I would advise not going the dual master's route. One, there are more economical ways to figure out your research interest than doing a dual masters. For example, just reading widely on your own is often sufficient. Two, if your goal is to a PhD, I would advise just going directly the PhD route. You can do the exploration that you want in a PhD program. Your application certainly seems competitive enough for a PhD program. Of course, I know very little about counseling psychology.
  3. Yes. Retake it. I do not think you get penalized for taking it a third time as far as I know. The only drawback is you will have to go through the process of studying, preparing, and taking it again. On another note, I worked with someone who got into UC Berkeley's social psychology program with an 1100 because he was stellar in other areas of his application. He published as an undergraduate, had lots of scholarships and awards, and gave many presentations.
  4. I disagree with this. Of course the GRE is a test you can study for. The quantitative portion tests how well you can solve problems that involve numbers. The verbal portion is suppose to test if your vocabulary is college level and if you can read complex paragraphs. All require skills that can be improved. It is far from being a mindless test. I do agree anxiety or experiencing a "stress" as oppose to a "challenge" response does adversely affect peoples scores, but that is an issue outside of "studying" for the test. I do believe you can also "train" yourself to feel less anxious and feel more of a "challenge" state. I actually do not know how much emphasis schools put on it, so I cannot intelligibly comment on that.
  5. Has anyone used this site (http://grepsychexam.com) to study for the subjects GRE? If so, did you find it helpful? Or was it a waste of your money? Thanks.
  6. The content is embedded in the question. I am really just using them as memory triggers.
  7. I know very little about each area. But it seems the main advantage of going the sociology route is it might be easier to get into? If that is only your criteria then go with that. Frankly though, I would go with organization behavior since it is more quant heavy. I am getting the distinct impression that quantative skills are incredibly important and will open many doors for you.
  8. Thanks for the info Chesire. With that said, anyone up for pooling our resources to study for the Psychology subjects gre? My plan is to digitize all of my note cards and question bank, so I can use my iphone to study anytime I want.
  9. Thanks. Do you know if a prep book from 1997 would still be viable? Or should i get something more recent?
  10. Greetings, I am in the process of studying for the GRE Psychology subject test. I am seeking advice on what is the most efficient way to study. I have generally been told of two ways: 1) Obtain a general psychology textbook and study it. 2) Obtain a Psychology GRE prep book and memorize the questions. I understand the merits of method # 1, but I am really just looking for the most efficient way to study given I have to take it in a month. My plan now is to digitize some of the questions from a large question bank pool and just "flash card" it up. Does anyone know of any good sites that provides this service for free or inexpensively? Thanks!
  11. haha. I'm actually not sure what is typical. I just wanted to cast a large net.
  12. Greetings fellow social psychologists, With application deadlines nearing, I figured it would a good time to start this years Fall 2013 Application thread. I will be applying to Social/Personality psychology PhD programs that focuses on emotions, emotion regulation, emotion and cognition, or emotion and motivation. I am in the process of making a list of all possible programs and advisors before I narrow it downto 25 programs.I hope to hear from more of you.
