  1. I had an interview today with a potential advisor. I am not sure if it went well or poorly. I feel as if I fumbled up a bit in my explanations of my research interests. But it went well when we started talking about their research.
  2. What do you do if you accidentally email a professor the wrong file or attachment i stead of your CV? Just apologize and hope for the bestzm
  3. Those seem very good scores. I dint think the AW score hurts you that much. I have a similar GPA. I dont think retaking it is necessary.
  4. It was actually more difficult than the practice test had me believe. Plus I found out last minute that you get dinged for incorrect answers. I must have overlooked that, so I ended up skipping 8 questions where I completely had no idea.
  5. Thanks Lewin. I was hoping to hear from you. Any thoughts onwhat else I can ask for?
  6. No this is wonderful feedback. Again it is mostly packed with research experience. I actually have a buddy with a much longer CV with over 25 presenations. Faculty CVs no longer have those as they are packed with publications and presenatations.
  7. I have an additional question. I have also been getting mixed information regarding length. Is there such a thing as too long of a CV as an undergraduate assuming it includes all relevant research and teaching experience? As of now my CV is 8 pages long.
  8. Hey. I know that asking POIs if they're taking students is the perfect excuse to introduce yourself. But what if their website states they are taking students. What other appropriate topic or inquiries can you make to introduce yourself?
  9. I went on www.socialpsychology.org network and just searched through there. You can also just search for individual professors, especially if you know the literature well enough.
  10. Thank you so much for the feedback.
  11. Thank you Boris. I know Lindquist is accepting as well.
  12. I have been getting mixed messages on what to include and exclude as an undergraduate applying to PhD programs. Would it be a good idea to include GRE scores on top of your CV along with your education, overall gpa, major gpa, and last 60 units? Also, what is the best sequence of information? Research experience, manuscripts/posters, awards? or Awards first? Thanks!
  13. I have heard that 4 is the minimum required. With your verbal and quant scores, it should not be a problem at all. I think you will be fine.
  14. First! Breathe! Then breathe some more. I would say relax for a bit then come back to the problem in an hour. After that, you can start preparing for the in person interview. I would not worry too much about the phone call since he has invited you to come in person. Familiarize yourself with the projects he talked about and think of potential follow up projects. Let go of your evaluation of the phone interview. Look forward to the in person interview.
  15. Greetings, I just wanted to share with you all my lab's research website that examines consumer behavior and well-being. This site is an academic venture with no fees or advertising. As a collaboration among social psychologists who study consumer behavior and well-being, your responses will be used for research purposes only. http://www.beyondthepurchase.org/ We'd love it if you'd at least check us out. Additionally, if you would be kind enough to answer the following brief questions for me that would be great. (1) Initial thoughts about the website (did they like it), (2) Did you register? Why or Why not? (3) If you did register, what surveys did you take and what do you think about the feedback pages? Thanks!
  16. This is redundant information, but your academic record should make you a good candidate for a master's program. Of course, research experience would be of primary importance and trumps GPA and GRE scores in most instances.
  17. If you think two months of focused studying will improve your score, absolutely do it. I am in the same boat as you in terms of GPA and research experience.
  18. I actually don't think it would matter that much. In my experience, there are far more cognitive psychologh programs than pure experiemental psychology programs. What would matter more is the methodology and the interest of your POI.
  19. Lewin, Part of the scholarship pays for it. I like the ratio you provided. I will probably go with that ratio. I will certainly try to have high quality applications. The personal statement is really the only thing customized correct?
  20. Lisa, Any feedback, unsolicited or otherwise, is always welcome =). I am aware of the cost. My scholarship is paying for most of it. I will be very selective. You are right that I will probably be hard press to find 25 programs I might really love, but I will starting sorting through my list of 100 professors soon. Darwin
  21. Has anyone emailed certain professors yet? Does anyone know if Dr. Fredrickson and Dr. Algoe from UNC will take students this fall application season?
  22. You have a very impressive track record. Admittedly, I do not know what the polices are regarding international students. I will say this though, students from the US with your track record would be pretty much a shoe in for most PhD programs.
  23. In my opinion, you want to work with as many different people as possible. Your advisor will understand. He/she does not have claim to you. Plus, it is nice to develop other academic relationships outside of your advisor.
