  1. Does anyone know the min and max length? I can't seem to find it on the site.
  2. Might be different for biology. I am applying to 26.
  3. The only thing I know about clinical psychology programs are they are tough to get in to. Don't they usually require a subjects GRE as well? We have roughly the same credentials, but I applying to social psychology programs. I am rooting for you though. If your LORs are going to be excellent, I think that should offset the GRE scores and the GPA.
  4. I ended up contacting the school. They said it was okay just as long as it is not too late.
  5. I think researchgate is intended for that type of communication. I don't see why not. Of course, I am not that familiar with academic etiquette. Someone who has more experience may provide you with different advice.
  6. I'd like an answer to this question as well.
  7. What happens if one of your writers submits a late letter of reccomendation? Is your entire application void? Stanford explicitly states it will not accept late submissions, but I have been reading and it seems like late letters are not uncommon.
  8. I'm a little weary of including information that are deemed tooo personal. What are some DON'T's for this?
  9. I'm just about to start mine, so I'm afraid I can't swap yet. But feel free to send me yours if you want someone to take a look at it.
  10. I agree with not mentioning it. If they ask directly, that is a different issue altogether. I would try to be vague but honest.
  11. What do you mean? The population you want to study is near the university? I would generally avoid referencing location as a reason unless its research related.
  12. Looks like you've made your decision. I would recommend against it also. But I have seen it down tactfully and with such force that it just made the personal statement stand out. But writing it that way is such a gamble.
  13. I have seen statements like that. It's a gamble. But if you can pull it off it certainly helps you stand out. The general consensus is do not talk about it. The statement just needs to get you an interview.
  14. If you're a linguist, can't go wrong with "Colorless green ideas sleep furiously". or a Hubel and Wiessel reference.
  15. Question: Most social psyc programs don't require the Subject GRE. I did not do well on it at all, but I am still debating whether I should send it out. What percentile rank do you think would be the critical tipping point where it would help you more than hurt you?
  16. Lewin gave some great advice in one of these threads. He said an important skill to learn in academia is the ability to turn or finish something and be able to let it go before you get results or feedback. There is no utility in worrying and waiting. I took his advice and been cultivating the letting go mindset ever since.
  17. I have not sat on any Adcom's but based on numbers alone I would say you have a very good shot. I wish you the best of luck.
  18. Hey. Still looking to swap?
  19. The Statement of Purpose is kickng my butt. Everything else is in order including LORs, transcripts and GREs. If anyone would like to exchange SoPs or talk about a good way to approach it shoot me a PM.
  20. That's actually very good advice that I will take. I agonized over the interview for a good portion of the day, and it really did not have any utility.
  21. How are everyone's application process coming along?
  22. That's true. Thanks Lewin!
