I am in a similar boat. Still waiting on Columbia, SVA, SAIC...has anyone been accepted at SAIC? Waiting, waiting, waiting.

One of my schools wants an answer on the next week at the latest. I haven't heard back from 5 of my schools. Argh.

Hey

Do NOT let a school pressure you to say yes before April 15th. Most schools have signed an agreement saying that al candidates have until April 15th to give them a decision. check out this website. hit search and look for the cgs resolution. It posts te binding agreement and lists the schools that signed it. You should check to see if your school is on it.

Congrats!

So far It's a no go for New Media, Film and Video. I'm still waiting for Art and Technology to say yea or nay and of course the other schools.

Thanks, all. SAIC's letter came after 5 rejections in a row (though immediately preceded by one other admittance) and after a very tough interview. It was grueling, especially after other interviewees said that the interviews were pretty easy-going. Best of luck to everyone and I hope everyone gets their dream school and lots of cash.

Cranbrook is the source of the pressure - they seem to require a studio deposit two weeks after you get your admission packet. The other schools I'm considering are CCA and East Carolina University. I'm flying out to look at Cranbrook tonight, then going to see if I can get to CCA Wednesday between tuesday and thursday classes. Ecu seems to have a deadline of apr 7th.

I go away for a week and so much activity :D

Congrats to all on the admits! So has anyone else made their decision about what school they will attend? It was kind of a no brainer for me because my top pick said yes and gave me money too. Now I have to figure out where the rest of the money is coming from...has anyone else thought about that part?

I just got into Parsons!

I have no idea how I am going to pay for grad school other than loans. I got some funding..but not enough.

Thanks Portafoy.

I was just thinking about that. I really don't know which I'll pick, because they are all so different. MCAD and the one on one mentorship vs SMFA with group critiques, Tufts and credit review at the end of the semester, or Parsons, which seems like there are a thousand directions that I can choose from.

I don't know about funding for SMFA yet, but I got the same amount from MCAD and Parsons, which makes it tough since neither covers tuition. Parsons is a smidge more expensive tuitionwise, and NY is definitely more expensive than Minneapolis. I still don't know.

Once NYU, RPI, SVA and Concordia make up their minds, I think I should be able to choose more efficiently.

Parsons wrote that they want to know by April10th. Has anyone had any experience in asking for an extension from any programs?

I don't know about extensions for deadlines at all. Of the schools that accepted you so far, though, I would definitely think seriously about Parsons. I thought long and hard about applying there and I think it's a really good school. I just got overwhelmed with doing seven applications and couldn't stomach doing any more.

I was accepted at SAIC and SVA. I thought it would be an easy choice (in favor of SAIC) until I started talking to people about it. I'm not whining, because I didn't think there would be any choice to make at all (there were an awful lot of rejections before the last two acceptances!) but I'm still leaning towards SAIC. Working artists I've talked to place a real premium on the NY contacts though. Anyone have any advice? If I knew how to set up one of those groovy polls, I would.

Portafoy I dont really know your work so it is hard to say but I would vote for SVA. SVA seems to be always putting out good student work which gives you good insight into their program. Also Charlie Traub that runs the program is a long time educator and pretty important in the way of photo. As for SAIC, I honestly think that they are sort of living off of the reputation of past faculty members and the fact that they are apart of a major museum. I think cost of living will be slightly higher in NYC but ultimately you can live pretty cheap there. But Chicago is a beautiful city so either way its hard to say.

Labmouse once again it is hard to say since I dont know your work but I think MCAD is a really good program if you can stand the bitter cold weather of Minneapolis. MCAD is definitely more than just a mentoring program but ultimately I think you need to pick the geographical place you want to be: the warm weather of San Fran, the cold of Minneapolis, or the huge art scene of NYC. All the schools you picked are in very different climates and cultural lifestyles.

I dont know if this was any help for either of you but I just figured I would put my opinion out there.

University Of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Mechanical Engineering, MFA Accepted via E-mail on 5 Mar 2008 U 24 Mar 2008 very happy!

Lol who would this be?

It's just not the same experience as MA applicants. A lot of posts are about test scores and GPAs which aren't the deciding factors for MFA programs. It's all about the portfolio. Plus, I have just been interviewed for some of the programs I applied to and nobody I know has heard back from the MFA programs. (I'm going for a film MFA)

I agree. Application process for us is very different from the others. Guys, if you're applying for an MFA in fall 09 and reading this, don't worry. I got all my notifications after the 15th of March and a few are still pending.

I got into SVA today. All of this seems so unreal. When Pratt rejected me, I thought that I didn't have a chance of getting in anywhere and would wind up editing porn to make ends meet. Now I got into a great program and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

congrats pointedears on your acceptance to Calarts!

Jps, I should tell you more about my work, because right now I'm in such a tailspin, I don't know who to accept.

I work in new media, mostly video, some sound work. I also do video and fiber installations as well as tactical media. I have an ongoing tactical media project now: http://www.reversetourism.blogspot.com/

Although I did visit all of the schools that I got accepted at, I kinda wish I could visit again to make sure that I'm making the right choice.
