Hi cohort 20 applicants!

Did you all receive an email today asking to fill out a survey and send in a video of yourself answering questions about challenging times?

No email today either.  Hmm. I can only assume that most likely means I am not in the running.  Trying to stay positive though.

Fingers crossed for you!

Stay positive!!! What are your stats? And are you a resident of California? Fingers crossed for both of us!

I'm not a California resident. I live in Colorado.

I've been out of school 10 years since I recieved my B.S. in Com Dis and Linguistics from University of Colorado Boulder.

My GPA in school was low, right around a 3.2 but I've taken about 4 classes since then and my Post Bac GPA is 4.0.

I scored relatively high around 160 on the GRE verbal. Not fantastic on the quant.

I have been an Accent Reduction coach under an SLP for over 10 years. I've worked with hundreds of clients.

My LOR are from a professor, an SLP, and a client of mine who is the CEO of a hospital system.

Honestly with all my working experience, I thought I had a decent chance.

Still no email as of this morning.

Looking back through previous acceptances on this site shows that most were given the interview survey before admission.

I think that is a super great sign for you. Let me know how it goes!

I didn't apply to any other schools. Since I have a couple of kiddos at home and another on the way, a part-time online school is the only way for me to go!

My husband told me to not give up hope until I get that darn rejection email so I'm holding onto a thread ?

A 160 is an excellent score and is definitely higher than my score! I used my MAT scores for my application and mine was a 385, not stellar.

Definitely take your husband’s advice and not give up hope until you officially hear from admissions. And if you do get a rejection email, maybe take the MAT, get some different experience (volunteer at a school?) and apply again. Good luck!

I will let you know how it goes for me, I do have a question for you though! How did you search previous acceptances and interview surveys? What key words did you use? I can’t find anything. Thanks!

Yeah I think I'll take a closer look at what the MAT is all about and try getting some volunteering in somewhere.

I just did a result search using Cal State Northridge as the school search.

And in general the survey email was sent out and the admission decision was about a week later from what I found.

I recieved the survey email on Monday. I'm wondering if it's for "bubble" students to help them make a decision. I am average as far as stats go.

What are your stats?

It's hard to say. I consider myself an average candidate and I didn't receive it.

Good luck to you! Let me know how it goes for you.

3.5 gpa, just over 300 combined on gre. All professional lors, and a strong (I think) essay. 3 years as an slpa.

I received the email on Monday as well, from what I’ve seen decisions should be sent out next weekend. Hopefully it’s a good sign but I’m trying not to get my hopes up

To those that have received the email, are you residents of California? Did you graduate from CSUs? Curious to see what we all have in common.

Just sharing my own stats, I am a California resident. Undergrad and teaching credential from CSUB. Did my communication science prerequisites through Idaho State. Currently a SLPA.

I received the email and I do not live in California nor did I graduate from CSUs. I do have a graduate certificate from one of the CSUs. My GPA and GRE scores are average as well.

When do the CSUN applications usually open?

Posted (edited)

@KEIM They usually open April 1 of each year and close June 1 of each year. As far as I can tell.

Holy cow. I don't think things look good for me considering I seem to be the only one who didn't receive the email. I've definitely scoured Spam and All Mail in my inboxes.  I seem to maybe need to get an SLP-A certificate. When I was in school more than 10 years ago, those weren't commonplace.

Why would you need  an SLPA cert? That’s too bad. I hope you get into another program. If I apply next June do I have to have my BA completed? I’m finishing in summer of 2019.

I'm not sure I need an SLP-A certification but it seems to be the trend that most applicants have it. This field has become highly competitive.

I'm not sure about your question regarding having your BA completed. I imagine as long as you are done before the program starts is OK. Definitely contact someone at CSUN to find out though!

Csun requires that all prerequisites are completed when you apply. So you would have to apply the next year. I guess because they’re so competitive they can impose these rules.

Thanks! Luckily I will have all the required prerequisites by the time applications are due. Except, my university doesn't offer Fluency. Isn't Fluency usually a grad school course?
