Recommended Posts

Hi Kandykane! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't LIU accredited, whereas Yeshiva is only a candidate right now? If accurate, to me, that holds some weight, because that means LIU is more likely to have the connections you'll need for externships and beyond. I remember being very impressed with Yeshiva's class selections. I don't know much about LIU, so I can't comment on that, although I would think about where I'd want to live as a grad student and where I'd want to get my externships (aka, how commutable will it be to them from both where you live and where the school is located). If you want to do your externships in Manhattan, Yeshiva might be more convenient, although apartment availability in the city would be very difficult! Have you visited both programs? At the end of the day, I think a lot of it depends on figuring out exactly what you're looking for, whether that's classes, an on-campus clinic (my understanding is Yeshiva doesn't have much of one), where you're living, and where you'd want to be working.

Also, here's somebody's perspective on their visit to Yeshiva that I saw a few days back. Hope this helps!

hey! i am in my first year at LIU post right now and I also got into yeshiva. i would DEFINITELY pick post over Yeshiva and I am so glad that I did. First off, YU's tuition..... girl. You are going to be paying that off for the rest of eternity. It's 80k for ONE YEAR whereas LIU would be like 76k for your entire program. Think of how hard paying YU off would be with all the intense interest. Also, I really love my professors at LIU. They truly care about you and want you to do well. It's really chill and not that bad so far (knock on wood) whereas my friends that are in YU, Molloy, Iona, etc. are struggling hardcore. My only complaint about the LIU program is the speech science professor. she is infamous for being horrible, but it is still doable. Also, the library isn't that great; however, it gets the job done. For LIU there are also 3 different types of cohorts with 3 different routes. Cohort A graduates in exactly two years (so for my case it would be spring 2020), Cohort B graduates in summer and Cohort C graduates in fall (2.5 years). I did not like YU because they were extremely disorganized (on top of the horrible tuition) and they were not accredited yet. ohhh and also my friend that is in LIU with me right now went to YU for undergrad and was saying she never even considered going to YU for grad because of the staff and the department. Apparently they are not the nicest? Her friend also had to transfer. I live in LI so the commute would also be an added expense. Idk about you, but once I have to start paying off these bills I wanna pay them off fast so I have more money to spend it on other things lol!! Ohhh and also (sorry rambling) liu is really nice too because we touch upon all different areas of speech. i like the medical side too so it really worked out for me. let me know if u need anything else!!! Btw, i don't want to scare you! I'm sure its not a bad school, this is just my point of view

Are you sure Yeshiva is 79 K a year? I'm pretty sure that's for the entire program. If it's 66 credits for the entire program. At 1200/credit that's a grand total of 79 K for both years.

Can you expand on how YU faculty isn't the 'nicest'?

Thanks!

Thank you for all the info!!! I am leaning more towards LIU anyway since its more well known. And like you mentioned it is on the cheaper side for me as well! Loans are something that worried me as well. I want to pay them ASAP the less the better hahaha. Does post touch up on the medical aspect as well? Thats what im really intrested in.

my friend went there for undergrad and said the department chair teaches some classes (or most) and shes very unfair and does not know how to teach apparently
