Slp2be! Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 I know that this forum has probably seen a lot of these ‘lower GPA posts’, and I have searched for them, but I am looking for some more recent information and opinions from those who have been in my place. Right now, I am a senior in college with a 3.38 GPA. At the end of this current semester, I should be at a 3.44, and with winter semester, a 3.5-ish. Are there any grad schools that will take GPAs this low? I have not taken the GRE yet, I have registered for next week and will update the thread with my scores once I get them. For experiences/etc: I am an undergraduate research assistant and am presenting research in October, a member of NSSHLA, a member of MSHA, I volunteer at a hospital, I volunteer at an elementary school, I work 40 hours a week (night shifts) as a caregiver for a spinal cord injury patient, I used to work as a phlebotomist and have 1.5 years of experience there. I have shadowed one SLP and plan to shadow one more before graduation. I am stuck and I have a list of schools to apply to (this is a huge list but I am going to cut down my list to 10 -ish schools. The list contains: St. Louis University, U of South Carolina, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Andrews University, Adelphi University, Radford University, Central Michigan University, Northern Arizona University, Faulkner, Harding, Calvin University, Aibilene University, Saint Xavier, University of Tennessee, George Washington Univerisity. What schools should I add? What schools will deny me and I should take off? Thank you guys for any input or experience, I dont know what I would do without this awesome forum.
laura120 Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 I don't know much about those schools, but I do know it is more than possible to get in with your GPA. In addition, all your outside activities and research experience will really help you in the application process. While others may not agree with me, I've found that a lot of schools accept people with scores/grades that don't always reach their standards because they really want a student based on essay/outside experience. Many thought my list of top schools was crazy (I applied to 8, 7 of which are in the top 30 schools) but I will begin my first day at Northeastern tomorrow. This will sound cheesy but if you really want a school, then go for it. It never hurts to add safeties but you have a lot of experience outside of school that schools want. Good luck!
Slp2be! Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 There a lot of schools I knocked off of my list because I saw people were getting rejected with GPAs of 3.8, but I guess I wasn’t really thinking about their volunteering and experiences. Good luck at Northeastern, that is amazing! I know it sounds a little silly, but at this point, I wasn’t even looking at the schools credentials because I was just desperate to get in.

I am in the same position as you!! Did you add any other schools? or drop any? Edited September 27, 2019 by SRod2015
slptobe! Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 It's definitely possible for you to get in, if you have any questions about the whole process, don't be afraid to ask.
TeamNoSleep Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 I personally would stay away from Calvin University because they mainly take their own students. I applied with pretty high stats and found out someone else got in (I got rejected) and this person had lower stats than I did but did attend their undergrad. Grand Valley is good but I do know they care a lot about GPA. But this isn't to say you won't get in. They just look at GPA and GRE first to determine if they'll invite you for the interview or not.
