  1. I don't know much about those schools, but I do know it is more than possible to get in with your GPA. In addition, all your outside activities and research experience will really help you in the application process. While others may not agree with me, I've found that a lot of schools accept people with scores/grades that don't always reach their standards because they really want a student based on essay/outside experience. Many thought my list of top schools was crazy (I applied to 8, 7 of which are in the top 30 schools) but I will begin my first day at Northeastern tomorrow. This will sound cheesy but if you really want a school, then go for it. It never hurts to add safeties but you have a lot of experience outside of school that schools want. Good luck!
  2. I wouldn't say that they necessarily count more but you should aim to do well in all. I know that probably wasn't what you wanted to hear but many schools require different prerequisite so it's hard to know which ones you'll need to demonstrate higher grades in. The best thing to do is try to get your major classes higher than your general ed requirements and check to make sure you meet the grade requirement the school needs from you for that class. Hope this helped!
  3. I took it twice with the intention of improving my score the second time but I did worse. It's a general test so for the most part, it's difficult to improve your score by that much. Also, it's true that it is a small thing that factors into your acceptances/rejections if you have outside experiences to help boost you.
  4. For interviews, most questions are directed towards why you chose this profession and where you want to take it. This includes knowing your research about the schools you're applying to and knowing what you can bring to the program. My GRE's were below average because I didn't study as much as I should have but my interview was the deciding factor for my admission for the school I'm attending this fall. Best advice is to look up sample questions and research the programs so you're ready to answer questions. Good luck!
  5. I agree with the advice above. While you can change your GRE's if desired, grades aren't as flexible so do what you can to find outside volunteer opportunities or get certified as an SLPA. Experience helps a lot in the application process.
  6. @speechieontherun I’m not asking that you sugarcoat it. I’m asking that you don’t comment at all if you are unable to support other students. There is a difference between being realistic and being cruel. Please get off grad cafe.
  7. @speechieontherun the way you commented on posts is not supportive of other students. If you don’t mind me asking, have you received admission to a graduate program this fall? Because whether you have or have not, this is not an environment of disencouragement.
  8. I still haven't heard about funding. Has anyone else heard?
  9. I'm declining Ole Miss and will decline if I am accepted/waitlisted to Emerson.
  10. So I started the FB page but then no one joined so I deleted it. But if anyone else wants to make one and try, that'd be great!
  11. Hi, I will be attending Northeastern in the fall and I am also interested in literacy. If literacy is what you want to do, I know Northeastern has required courses in literacy for the entire first year of the masters and there is a literacy lab. I don't know much about BU but I will say that if you are looking to work with children on literacy, Northeastern has great classes and resources for that. Hope that helps!

  13. There is a facebook page for admitted students called Northeastern University Slp-Ma 2019. Please like the page if you are attending in the Fall of 2019!
