Thought it might be useful to create a thread for those applied to Stanford. They're releasing interview invites this week so comment here if y'all hear anything! Feel free to talk about yourselves too - I'm an international student who doesn't know anyone else applying so it'd be nice to hear some voices out here!

It is very hard for international applicants to be accepted by top rank institutions in Biomedical fields without publication or exceptional shining recommendation.

Stanford bioscience receives around 1000 international applicants all programs add up each year, about 10% has decent grades, recommendations, and publications vs Less than 10 will be granted an offer.

Yeah... This is true. I emailed the Director of the biophysics program at Stanford, and his reply was "If you are an international student, I highly recommend applying through BioE if you think that that program will be a good match. Both Biophysics and Biochemistry have a limited number of slots (1) for international students, while BioE’s funding has no constraints."

I don't know if it applies to the other biosciences programs, but I would think it's somewhere similar. I guess it's not impossible (and always worth a shot, part of it is definitely luck), but it's a little hard.

I just contacted them and received this response (from BMI)

"Regarding your application status: In the coming week, we will start to contact those applicants who have been selected for an interview (sorry this is taking a while, but we appreciate your continued patience and interest in BMI). The selected applicants will be invited to interview, at our expense, arriving on Wednesday, March 4 and departing on Sunday, March 8, 2020. This is our only interview session. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will receive a letter which states that no further action will be taken on their application by the Committee on Graduate Admissions and Policy."

Awesome, thank you!

Aside from the one human who heard back from Chemical and Systems Biology, has anyone had an update since? It seems like they're slightly behind compared to previous years... ? Secondary choices were: Immunology and Cancer Biology ?

Honestly wasn't aware of how challenging it is for international applicants until learning it the hard way this year haha..

I saw your post on the larger biology thread - congratulations on your Harvard BBS interview! Your profile seemed really outstanding, would you mind if I pm you some specific questions?
